@gonglei89 Omg, I log back into Twitter, jetlagged and sleep-deprived, for the first time in like a year, and I'm now following this drama like gd Love Island 😅

You know speaking seriously it’s actually *quite* sad that this person thinks you should only be allowed to live in America under white approval with submission to white authority when this country was taken from the natives and built on black bodies. x.com/anticomtw/stat…
𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙤𝙡𝙙 𝘼𝙧𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙫𝙚@anticomTW

@gonglei89 @KaiserKat04 And white people let you, a hateful foreigner, stay in their country and even work in their politics. But sure, they're all evil white supremacists.

White man’s pet keeps trying to land this dunk that criticizing white supremacy while living in the US makes you a hypocrite, but if they think that’s hypocrisy that means they think white hegemony is bad which means trying to silence the criticism is worse😂 Peak dumbassery 😏
𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙤𝙡𝙙 𝘼𝙧𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙫𝙚@anticomTW

@gonglei89 Nice try. You yourself obviously prefer living in a white country, over moving to someplace your ancestors built.

@Mont_Jiang Rural working-class white Americans and urban working-class African-Americans are even quite similar culturally with each other. I can't totally put it into words and I'm not an expert, but it's just something felt.

@gonglei89 @honglilai @yangmingwanli @xeno_swift Even among my gen of 30-sthngs, in some contexts (eg temple), we still use multiple given names. My friend being either 寶珠 or 传平 depending on who I'm talking to. Just saying that names are sig (otherwise what's the pt of having so many) but the exact significance is complex

@gonglei89 @honglilai @yangmingwanli @xeno_swift I mean...not to deny socioeconomic factors, but another factor may be that Chinese ppl are also culturally not super tied to the notion of one GIVEN name to rule them all? I'm only in my 30s, & my rural China-born dad has 4 Chinese names: 乳名,學名,字,号. 🤷‍♀️

I think insofar as there’s some truth to “white adjacency” charge it’s mostly from how we were pressured into assimilating on white terms just to try to survive integration into America. White culture tried to make us white adjacent. We were just trying to find ways to live here.
ABB@Mont_Jiang

When it comes to accusations that Asians are "white adjacent" and that's how we came to be "over-represented" in higher learning, it's completely false. Asian fixation on higher ed comes from our social exclusion and economic precarity. We know that education is our lifeline. /

@CalCourtKy @tokencarnie @madamchao @angryasianman @EllenYChang Cambodian restos too. If they can't make a dish veg only bc "oh, bong, the sdao is already mixed with the meat during prep," they tell me, then usually follow up w/ what they can do "we can make the plea w/ tofu instead of beef."

Here is a guide to eating Asian food: 1. All of it is family style - that's what the lazy Susan is for (except for Japanese bento boxes). 2. Eat the rice with the entree. 3. When someone offers you an entree, it is part of our culture. 1/

@CalCourtKy @tokencarnie @madamchao @angryasianman @EllenYChang In sum, its not that Chinese/Cambo restos are less welcome/inclusive, its that if u are an outsider, be aware that it MAY be more ur (in)ability to communicate w/ us rather than our willingness to accommodate. So be kind & respectful even if its not going how u think it should go

@DimonvLuka @Mont_Jiang I have a degree from a top 20 chemistry program, & I think of CRISPR as a huge advancement...in process. Minimal advancement in the understanding of genetic engineering itself. Mb we do have diff defs of innovation, raising the question: why DO you think it's so innovative?

@Mont_Jiang I disagree, Crispr alone is enough to be considered one of the greatest discoveries in biology of all time. Much of the tech I listed are based on "breaking" longstanding conventions of physics. Mb we have different definitions of innovation? Tech is finally catching up to theory

American propaganda includes selling us on the idea that the last 2 decades brought us 'unprecedented technological innovation.' We're basically just a few years away from living in space stations and uploading ourselves into computers.

Eat it, Frankie. Joy Sauce is minstrel racism at its worst. Escape From Plan A, otoh, doesn't engage in self-directed racism for white approval. Also, Apple has no idea what any of these pods are about. They're just posting the ones people actually download.

@kage_urufu @catcontentonly Cuba actually used to have the largest Chinatown in North America. Over time, there was assimilation, but also dying off. As recently as 1980s, Havana Chinatown was full of ppl...but mostly 70+ yr old Chinese bachelors who never made enough $ to either marry nor return to China
