There are so many problems with this “agreement,” which is why @JohnCornyn and @SenThomTillis should have never made this their red line. The fact that Blanche would do it in the first place was — and still is — disqualifying, even if he now (temporarily) rescinds it.
1) the ridiculous tax immunity deal still applies to all tax years up to and including this year. Remember, the lawsuit was a total sham that was withdrawn and this was an addendum that had no relevance or connection to the lawsuit “settlement.” This is literally a gratuitous and corrupt gift to Trump, and it still remains in force (at least until a new AG rescinds it, which they can do unilaterally).
2) nothing stops Blanche from doing it again once he’s confirmed under some other name. And certainly in January when Cornyn and Tillis are gone.
Blanche has demonstrated over and over that he is purely a vessel for Trump to punish his enemies and reward his “allies.” The Capitol police who were beaten and assaulted during J6 can’t even get disability but Trump wants to give those who assaulted them millions of dollars — and Blanche will make sure that happens.
Cornyn and Tillis have repeatedly been burned by Trump nominees reneging on promises they made to get confirmed (see Kash Patel). Why they take anyone’s word for anything — especially when this agreement isn’t worth the paper it’s written on — is pathetic.
Cornyn lost to an unethical extremist solely because Trump endorsed against him. Tillis didn’t run again because he knew he wouldn’t get Trump’s endorsement. Why continue to do his bidding??

From the outset, Senator @JohnCornyn and I were clear that we needed a written document addressing our concerns on the IRS audit agreement and the anti-weaponization fund that included constraining the scope of audit protection by limiting it to the parties of the Settlement Agreement and legally ending the anti-weaponization fund.
We are pleased that the Department of Justice has issued a formal order terminating the anti-weaponization fund. Additionally, the Department has acknowledged in a binding written order that the audit settlement is limited to the plaintiffs and the scope does not extend beyond the defendants in the lawsuit, the IRS and the Treasury, addressing concerns that multiple of our Republican colleagues share.
We want to express our gratitude to Mr. Blanche and his staff for working with us on this, and we look forward to voting to advance his nomination out of the Senate Judiciary Committee soon.

As a father and husband, I can tell you the last two years have been pure hell for my wife Bridget, our daughter Emily, me, and our entire family in the aftermath of Emily's divorce.
It has been horrific to watch this play out in full public view, all while knowing an innocent two-year-old girl is caught in the middle. Our priority has always been protecting our daughter and our granddaughter. Out of concern for the safety of my family, I hoped to keep this matter private but Max Miller’s increasingly erratic and dangerous behavior has made that impossible.
As he has admitted privately, Max Miller needs serious psychological help. He is a danger to my daughter, and I hold my breath every minute he has custody of my granddaughter.
If there are any basic standards of character required to hold elected office, Max Miller fails them. He should not serve in the House of Representatives. I believe Max Miller needs to seek professional help to end the clear pattern of abuse he has left in his wake. I believe he should not be free to continue endangering others until he does.
I ran for office because I wanted to make a difference for the country that gave me every opportunity to succeed, and to leave this nation better for my children and grandchildren. That sacrifice has been especially hard on my wife Bridget, whose big heart and steady support have never wavered. I owe it to her, to Emily, and to my granddaughter to speak the truth now.
