Check out this awesome thread about our new review of #HPV Genomics. I love the way @chasewnelson summarizes the key points!

OUT TODAY in @MicrobeTweets Tumour Virus Research: Nearly everyone gets #HPV. Most infections are cleared by the immune system, but a small fraction go on to cause ~5% of all cancers. #Genomics is revealing why. @LisaMirabello_ & I review the latest. 1/8 doi.org/10.1016/j.tvr.…

Happy to share our new study showing that HPV E6 depletes antioxidant capacity by repressing mitochondrial biogenesis. Thus HPV+ OPSCCs resistant to chemoRT had low E6 plus high mitochondrial mass, which was linked to poor survival in 3 patient cohorts. insight.jci.org/articles/view/…

Very grateful to @theNCI for this new R01 grant, and excited to work with @CharlestonCWKC @nmancuso_ @Junjyang @plupo1 amongst others to investigate why children of Hispanic/Latino ethnicity have the highest risk of acute lymphoblastic leukemia in the US
USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center@uscnorris

Congrats to Dr. de Smith who was awarded a major grant from the @theNCI to conduct a comprehensive study, led by a team of investigators at USC Norris, of the role of germline genetic variation in the increased risk of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia in Hispanics/Latinos.

This is how the lab kept my office plants alive while I was sick and then traveled 🤗! The results - the plants are yellowish but alive (too much care 😆??). I am now thinking - should we publish it in Nature Protocols or some Visual Experiments journal? Thoughts 🤔??

In the first HPV16 whole genome sequencing study of HPV-OPC, we found 8 high-risk HPV16 SNPs associated with poor survival. Median survival for patients with at least 1 high risk SNP was 4 years compared to 19 years for patients without. @LisaMirabello_ @FadenLab @RobertFerrisMD
