I see so many TJ abuser apologists in the fandom that it's concerning.
TJ is an abuser and no amount of sad backstory or twisted love narrative can change that. Why? Because Ian suffered actual physical and emotional consequences from TJ's action for 20 years. That alone is enough to say he is an abuser.
They like to bring up Ian choosing to also stay in the toxic cycle as if that will make it better for TJ. I'm sorry but that's victim blaming and TJ is still an abuser.
Did Ian want to join the gang? No. Did Ian want to stay in the gang? No. Did Ian want to get his leg broken and losing his Motocross career? No. Did Ian want to remain a booty call while his partner fk around with endless women to keep up the farce and gain power? No. Did Ian want to go to prison and do drug runs to pay exorbitant protection money? No. TJ did all of that and more, even admitting to himself he did it willfully and selfishly to keep Ian by his side no matter how miserable Ian was.
If there is no abuser instigating the abuse, there will be no victim compromising and staying in that abuse cycle. Emphasizing Ian choosing to stay is reductive and excusing the abuser, while the focus should always be on how much harm the victim has to suffer.
Imagine a domestic abuse case going to court and the abuser said oh I did it because I loved them, that it was fate that made it so easy to do all of the harmful things, and look, my partner stay with me anyway. See how ridiculous that sounds?
Ultimately I fear that the author and the story are also at fault for this mentality because the author probably never wants to see TJ as an abuser and deliberately chose to romanticise everything, most evidently by the happy tones the story ended on, the fact that TJIan mostly swept the abuse under the rug, TJ not suffering any meaningful consequences while Ian bent over backwards for him to make the relationship work. It is honestly disgusting and harmful.

its so funny bc there genuinely was no reason to create jo if this was her plan all alone, instead of all the beautiful moment she gave jo and ian, she shouldve focused on tj’s redemption and his feelings and his growth to be worthy of ian again
a pile of hot garbage
☀️@saturn_inorbit
the lack of tj development is hilarious, she made his past & mistreatment of ian his whole personality. no consequences, no redemption just a 2 yr prison sentence and in the end he becomes a replacement for joseph, the man ian looks at the stars and thinks about💀 #WetSand

"I prevented you from having the life you wanted but here's the motorcycle you've loved". The glorification of a manipulator who has managed to keep his victim from leaving. I hope the author writes with awareness and doesn't actually believe this is "love".

this has to be a joke right???? oh ian can ride a bike again after 10+ years with the man who broke his leg and stopped him from leaving the gang and achieving his dream

moral of the story is your abusers will always win 😭😭😭😭 poor ian. poor joseph, carried the whole story for a manchild who barely appeared in the story other than to abuse ian and have sex with him

I'm kinda happy it ended this way without dragging further cuz now I can for eternity laugh at how the author acted so high and mighty saying it'd be different only to romanticize abusive tops like every other BL out there while leaving tons of plot points unaddressed
