@rodneysampson @brettashtonsj @shaft @theohubs @kingonomics This is based on observation of the people who have applied to our program so far, not assumption. People requesting financial support come from underrepresented groups. We think one factor here is that the majority group entrepreneurs who apply have raised more capital on avg.

Saw this. Got excited at the possibilities. Saw the team. Has some deep eye rolls. Is this another retreat of platitudes and mild accountability??! Literally no one on that anchor team is representing communities that are often the most impacted by irresponsible leadership.

@hutchamachutch @tiffani @beLaurie Fair point (on the benefit of the doubt). I'm uncertain as to how we're profiting from inclusion. We stated that we are committed to building diverse peer groups on the website, because we've done the work to actually make the numbers reflect diversity in our participants.

@hutchamachutch @tiffani @beLaurie The role of the facilitators is to create intimacy, vulnerability, and openness, so that everyone feels comfortable sharing what's on their mind – whether that's a personal/professional challenge, or a dynamic between two people in the group.

@hutchamachutch @tiffani @beLaurie Part of the environment we strive to create is one in which participants are able to directly address micro or overt aggressions, if they perceive this to be happening within the group. If you've seen peer-based models done especially well, we'd love to learn.

I hope you'll give us the benefit of the doubt that as we grow, we expect and intend for this team to expand upon many axes of diversity.

For the unique challenges that underrepresented participants face, we aim to provide a venue to discuss those challenges, but there isn't a specific "teaching" piece that we offer

@ekp @JillWetzler We've made an effort to make the participants non-homogeneous. We are 10% black and latinx, and 40% women. This is obviously not the makeup of tech leadership, and we've constrained the size of the program a lot to keep the proportions this way.

@LitFellows @ekp The best suggestion I can make is to give those who you're trying to help a seat at your table. Otherwise you run the risk of perpetuating harm you can't even anticipate or clearly see. It's no shade (hi, white lady here 👋🏻), it's just how it is.
