I went to the eye dr today, and in the waiting room with me was a man in his 30s and a man in his 80s.
The younger man was dressed in a suit and obviously there during his lunch break. The older looked to be a widower.
And then there's me- early 50s, empty nester, right in the middle.
I imagined the life stages the three of us are at, and the unique challenges we each face.
-A young man, working hard during the day to support his family, constantly worrying about bills, putting kids through college and making his wife happy.
-An elderly man, nearing the home stretch, yet making the most of each day. Wondering if the grand kids will visit over the summer and when his kids will call him again. Lonely, yet putting one foot forward every day.
-Me, navigating an empty nest and getting to know my husband after years of raising kids. Happy that my kids are grown and successful, yet sad those days are behind me, and looking for ways to be needed again.
Three stages of life. One waiting room.
Makes ya think about the brevity of life and the importance in making the most of every moment.
I hope each of you takes time today to embrace the season of life you're in, because it will pass all too quickly.
For my GenX and Boomer friends, it felt like a "Cats in the cradle" moment.
