@BatesPhysio I am planning on taking a 2 year sabbatical after my PhD and the hardest fear to overcome was about the gap in the CV. But realised that life always happens and I will find my way back where I best fit in, rather than bending backwards for thankless jobs/industries.

No, because I can tell you I have seen several men with minimal publication records and large gaps awarded the same funding...

New episode on Prof. Rita Levi-Montalcini's life and great accomplishments, despite moving her lab in her bedroom at some point and the wrath of WWII. She created a new field of study by discovering the nerve growth factor (NGF) and won a Nobel Prize for it. #LivesToRemember

@LivesToRemember @NatureCellBio @s_lefkopoulos Good question! Not yet - didn't manage to rebrand them for the paper but still hope to do so in the future! Aphrodite's attendants have been discussed as a leading contender 😊 Thank you for the great suggestion

Our work to define the regional organization of the small intestine is online @NatureCellBio today: rdcu.be/dxWxy!! Make way for domains A – E and a new approach to track the molecular patterns of nutrient metabolism. Many thanks to @s_lefkopoulos & our reviewers!

@FZMarques From "you didn't fuflfill the promised deadline, you must be stupid and lazy" to "you didn't contribute to this presentation's data and the only slide you came up with is bad/lazy". This is just from the top of my head. Who needs enemies with supervisors like this?

Friends, I am preparing a talk about research culture and I wanted to include some bad examples of what we need to stop tolerating What are some of the worst comments you have received or have heard? (If you are not comfortable to post them, feel free to PM or email)

What if scientific articles had a short section titled: “What I really think.” No references, no justification, just transmission of your current internal model in <250 words. Would save a lot of reading between the lines.

@RKZwick Greek mythology never disappoints. The Charities (Attendants of Aphrodite on vase paintings): Anthea (Blossoms/Flowers) Eudaemonia (Prosperity) Pannychis (Parties) Paedia (Play) Pandaesia (Banquet). All about a happy gut 😂

"Karikó’s career seems like an exercise in rejection. What kept her going, she says, wasn’t that she felt like her long hours would eventually pay off with worldwide recognition, but that she didn’t care if they did. “I felt successful when others considered me unsuccessful”"
