@BatesPhysio I am planning on taking a 2 year sabbatical after my PhD and the hardest fear to overcome was about the gap in the CV. But realised that life always happens and I will find my way back where I best fit in, rather than bending backwards for thankless jobs/industries.

Why do we have to explain these?

No, because I can tell you I have seen several men with minimal publication records and large gaps awarded the same funding...

What if scientific articles had a short section titled: “What I really think.” No references, no justification, just transmission of your current internal model in <250 words. Would save a lot of reading between the lines.
