Okay, so: I was genuinely confused by the ways in which my students would get words wrong when reading (ie seeing Pentecost and saying purple) and now I’m just learning: They don’t teach phonics anymore at a lot of schools?! You do cues from the sentence?!

A man once built the world's largest treehouse after claiming God told him to do so. It was 97 feet tall. It took 12 years to build and burned down in 15 minutes in 2019. It only took about 15 minutes for the world's largest treehouse, a 97-foot-tall wooden structure located in Crossville, Tennessee, to be reduced to a pile of ashes. This remarkable building, known as the Minister's Treehouse, was constructed in the early '90s by Harold Burgess. According to Burgess, he felt a divine calling to create this impressive framework, believing that "If you build a treehouse, you'll never run out of material." Over the next two decades, the Minister's Treehouse took shape with the generous contribution of rough lumber, much of it donated by the local community. The structure was supported by an 80-foot white oak tree and stretched up to five stories, boasting 80 rooms, including classrooms, bedrooms, and a kitchen. A winding staircase connected the various floors, and a large wraparound porch adhered to traditional Southern architectural style. The interior of the treehouse was a blend of eccentricity and spirituality. It featured an intricately carved pulpit, wooden pews, a towering cross, and a hand-carved Bible. Beneath the structure, a meticulously maintained lawn spelled out "JESUS." The treehouse served not only as a unique gathering place for church services but also as a popular tourist attraction. However, in 2012, state fire marshals intervened and halted tourism at the treehouse. They cited several violations, including the absence of a load distribution system, uneven flooring, fall hazards, non-compliance with building codes, and a lack of involvement from a registered design professional. In response, Burgess placed a sign reading, “Closed by the state fire marshal. File your complaints with them.”
