I went to withdraw ₦1,000 from a POS stand yesterday. The lady looked at me and said: “Na only ₦1k?” One guy nearby even laughed and casually said: “Things don hard naw.” Meanwhile, I simply hate carrying cash. I use transfers for almost everything. The ₦1k was for a bike man waiting for me. Few minutes later, one man in my street came with ₦50k cash. His bank app was having issues, so he wanted to give the POS agent cash and let her transfer the money to someone urgently. The network started misbehaving. He asked the same guy who mocked me if he could help transfer the money. The guy quietly said he did not have that kind of money. I was eventually the one who helped the man send the ₦50k. Never use small transactions to measure somebody’s pocket.
