Here is what I think happened. The Trump administration laid no groundwork with the American people for a war. When the regime didn’t roll over and “surrender” like in Venezuela Trump was caught with his pants down. The Iranians weaponized the price of oil, Trump and the GOP‘s poll numbers tanked and here we are now.
Where this goes, I have no idea. But no one I am talking to who I take seriously is spinning this as anything other than an unmitigated disaster.

UPDATE: Letters from Leo can now independently confirm that the meeting took place — and that the Vatican was so alarmed by the Pentagon’s tactics that Pope Leo XIV shelved plans to visit the United States later this year. Many in the Vatican saw the Pentagon’s reference to an Avignon papacy as a threat to use military force against the Holy See.
