The members of CUPE Local 416 are proud to see the impact of our Not One More Worker campaign reflected in the City of Toronto’s official proclamation of Safety and Health Week. As outlined in the City’s May 4, 2026 communication and proclamation, @MayorOliviaChow and Toronto City Council have formally recognized the importance of preventing workplace injuries and illnesses, and the shared responsibility to keep workers safe. This recognition is the result of sustained advocacy by workers who know firsthand the risks that exist across municipal jobs every day. Through the Not One More Worker campaign, Local 416 has been working alongside the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development to drive a culture shift in workplace safety.  This includes advancing third-party risk assessments across municipalities, strengthening safety standards, and re-examining how work is performed to better protect workers. We will continue pushing for stronger protections, better enforcement, and meaningful change, because even one injury or death, is one too many. #NotOneMoreWorker #StrongerTogether

On the National Day of Mourning, Toronto Civic Employees Union Local 416 was proud to convene a meeting with Minister David Piccini @DavidPiccini, Mayor Olivia Chow @MayorOliviaChow, and department staff from the city and the province on #workplacesafety. Ensuring workers have access to important health and safety benefits, by expanding and strengthening protections if they become ill on the job, is key in making sure workers have the tools they need to do their jobs. Local 416 has been working on improving health and safety at the municipal and provincial level with our Not One More Worker campaign and we’re so encouraged that leadership at both the provincial and city levels stand ready to work with us to make things better for workers in Toronto and across Ontario. For more information on our campaign to address workplace injuries in Ontario read here: local416.ca/not-one-more-w…

Local 416 believes strongly in working with government to advocate for comprehensive, well‑funded mental‑health care that reflects the realities of the work our members do every day. TCEU Local 416 welcomes last week's announcement by the Government of Canada and Ontario Government investing $15 million to expand Runnymede Healthcare Centre and establish Ontario’s first Post‑Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI) Centre of Excellence for frontline workers. This investment will support two new facilities opening in 2027 — a new Toronto ambulatory site for outpatient care and a 40‑bed residential recovery centre in Caledon — providing specialized mental‑health and substance‑use supports for first responders and frontline workers across Ontario. We thank the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario, and Runnymede Healthcare Centre for working together to make this important investment possible. Supporting the mental health of first responders strengthens public safety for everyone.

As part of our 2026 Ontario Lobby Day at Queen’s Park, TCEU Local 416 and our Toronto emergency service partners Toronto Professional Firefighters' Association and Toronto Police Association spent the day engaging with provincial decision‑makers on the shared challenges facing emergency services in #Toronto. Across our services, we are all managing four urgent issues: ➡️ Service sustainability: Demand rising faster than resources ➡️ Public safety: Consistency and reliability at risk ➡️ Workforce capacity: Burnout, injuries, WSIB pressures, and mental‑health impacts ➡️ Intergovernmental partnership: The need for predictable provincial and federal participation A big thank you to Premier Doug Ford and Minister David Piccini for meeting with our Paramedic Unit and partners and for their openness in working with us to tackle the challenges first responders are facing in Toronto. We’d also like to thank Marit Stiles and John Fraser as well as their caucus members who met with us on the challenges emergency services personnel face. Local 416 is committed to building relationships and working with the city and the province to better serve our members, so they can better serve the people of Toronto.

Local 416 is pleased to announce the appointment of Domenic Maugeri to the OMERS Sponsors Corporation for the 2026–2029 term. Domenic brings deep experience, commitment, and a strong understanding of both pension governance and the priorities of our members. Domenic will ensure that: ➡️ Our members’ pensions remain secure and sustainable, ➡️ OMERS continues to protect defined-benefit retirement income, and ➡️ Toronto municipal outside workers have a credible, informed, and effective voice at the table. His work will play a key role in shaping the future of our pension plan. #StrongerTogether

Toronto’s recycling program was the gold standard. Built by public workers. Accountable to residents. Now it’s diluted under a contractor model. This isn’t about the workers, it’s about the system. Public service delivers #accountability. Contracts deliver profit. Listen: local416.ca/left-looking-i…

This wasn’t a routine transition bump. The scale of disruption shows the system wasn’t ready and it wasn’t tailored to Toronto. Workers didn’t fail. Residents didn’t misunderstand. The government model changed. Listen: local416.ca/left-looking-i…

Accountability matters. Especially when public services change. On the latest episode of Left Looking In, @Ted_Aivalis breaks down how the blue box transition has blurred responsibility and left frontline workers caught in the middle: local416.ca/left-looking-i…

Toronto’s emergency workers show up every day — on the streets, in our neighbourhoods, and at our city’s most critical moments.   Mayor Olivia Chow @MayorOliviaChow understands that emergency services aren’t a “nice‑to‑have”. They’re the foundation of a safe and thriving city. Local 416 welcomes her commitment to a fairer funding model and her support for the workers who keep #Toronto running. Police, Fire, and Paramedics. This is what a united front looks like. @TPFFA @Ted_Aivalis @Local416 @TPAca @TPACallanan #StrongerTogether
