In 2026 one of the skills that every software engineer, developer or architect will need is the knowledge of quickly identifying the root cause in (unknown) code. This will be a differentiation factor, as more and more code will be AI generated and developers will not know all portions of the code. Being able to visualize the data flow and/or the code flow in your head will proof you to be human and show that your brain is still more capable than any AI coding assitent. Oh my god. I have been fruitlessly beating my head off of the "you have to ask customers in advance what failure mode they want" wall with AWS for years, but @cloudflare nails it out of the gate, with the correct default. They are rapidly becoming my first choice for things.

Allen Helton wrote something I keep thinking about: "Not everything you build needs users." I've fallen into that trap. I've been building SaaS things. More than one. But Allen's argument resonates deeply with me as a developer: ✦ Building 𝑙𝑖𝑘𝑒 a SaaS teaches you real skills — multi-tenancy, auth, data isolation ✦ Running a SaaS is a different beast — support SLAs, marketing ✦ Open-sourcing your project and writing about what you learned does MORE for the community than a micro-SaaS with 12 paying users I'm not saying stop building. I'm saying maybe write the blog post first. Share the lesson. Let the code be the receipt, not the product.
