Comp update: Kirk Cousins will sign a five-year, $172 million deal with the Raiders that in reality is a one-year, fully-guaranteed $20 million deal that also contains a club option for two years at $80M. The Falcons will pay Cousins $8.7 million this season, the Raiders another $1.3 million and Las Vegas also agreed to pay its new QB a fully-guaranteed $10 million roster bonus on the third day of the 2027 new league year. And maybe most notably, it also sets another new mark: this will be the 11th straight NFL season in which Cousins’ contract will be fully guaranteed.

@FB_FilmAnalysis @Tyler_Pherigo1 I think it’s mainly to protect himself from being held hostage like ATL did to him. A 1 year deal would have made it possible for a franchise tag. This eliminates that possibility an guarantees he will be cut before free agency.

@4EVARDR1 It’s protection for Kirk. A 1 year deal would give the Raiders a chance to franchise him. Kirk wants to make sure he is a FA next year, and that he’s cut prior to the start of Free Agency.
Raiders will pay him $1.3 mill. He will start the year, and then be cut, and a FA in 2027.

The #Raiders traded back twice in the second round last year, and I can see them doing it again this year in the 2nd and/or 3rd.
Their draft philosophy is very much BPA oriented, but a safety on day 2 is likely, specifically think a trade back in round 2 for LSU’s AJ Haulcy.

Last season the Raiders gave up 64 sacks - the most in the NFL. Even with an improved offense line - the signing of Tyler Linderbaum and the return of Kolton Miller, having a veteran like Cousins who could start on Day 1 to help stabilize the Raiders offense makes a ton of sense.

@Ryan_D2TF Disagree. I watched every IU snap. He’s great, but you can’t claim his size won’t limit him. He’ll struggle with guys like Mike Evans and Tee Higgins. He won’t be able to move inside against TEs.
