Gdy niemal cała europejska klasa polityczna zaczęła traktować przyjęcie Ukrainy do Unii jak moralny test bez prawa do pytań, Orbán był jednym z nielicznych, którzy mówili: chwila, a co z interesem państw już należących do wspólnoty? Co z rolnictwem? Co z rynkiem pracy? Co z pieniędzmi? Co z bezpieczeństwem i stabilnością samej Unii? Reuters wskazuje, że po jego porażce w Brukseli pojawiły się oczekiwania na odblokowanie spraw, które Węgry dotąd hamowały, w tym dużego pakietu wsparcia dla Ukrainy. I właśnie tu dochodzimy do sedna. Orbán nie przegrywa tylko jako polityk węgierski. Przegrywa jako symbol oporu wobec modelu Europy, w którym wszystko ma być jednolite, wygładzone i zatwierdzone przez centrum. Jego odejście cieszy tych, którzy uważają, że „europejskość” polega na posłuszeństwie. Smuci tych, którzy sądzą, że wspólnota narodów ma sens tylko wtedy, gdy narody nadal mają prawo mówić własnym głosem. Oczywiście przyczyny jego porażki były w dużej mierze wewnętrzne. Doniesienia agencyjne wskazują na zmęczenie społeczne, problemy gospodarcze, wysokie koszty życia, zarzuty korupcyjne i rosnące oczekiwanie zmiany. To wszystko zadziałało. Wybory nie zostały przegrane wyłącznie na sporze z Brukselą, ale przede wszystkim na codzienności zwykłych Węgrów. Tyle że polityka nie jest tylko rachunkiem za prąd i ceną chleba. Jest także odpowiedzią na pytanie, czy rząd ma jeszcze odwagę powiedzieć „stop”, kiedy międzynarodowa moda, presja instytucji i chóralne moralizowanie każą mu iść dokładnie w przeciwną stronę niż interes własnego państwa. Orbán tę odwagę miał. I dlatego, nawet jeśli dziś wielu świętuje jego porażkę, nie da się ukryć, że z europejskiej sceny schodzi polityk wyrazisty, niepokorny i zdolny do realnego oporu. Być może Węgrzy wybrali zmianę potrzebną. Być może mieli dość stagnacji, sporów i wieloletnich rządów jednego obozu. To ich prawo. Ale reszta Europy nie powinna udawać, że wraz z Orbánem znika wyłącznie problem. Znika także niewygodne pytanie, które zadawał z uporem: gdzie kończy się współpraca, a zaczyna polityczne podporządkowanie? I właśnie dlatego ta porażka jest dla wielu złą wiadomością. In der U-Bahn gibt es keine aggressiven Gruppen junger Männer oder durchgeknallte Psychopathen. Die Stationen sind völlig sauber und stinken nicht nach Urin, wie so häufig in Berlin. Obwohl ein erbitterter Wahlkampf geführt wird, gibt es nach wie vor keinerlei politische Gewalt. Es werden auch nicht wie in Deutschland die Autos von Oppositionspolitikern in Brand gesteckt. Wer die Regierung im Internet kritisiert, muss nicht mit der Verfolgung durch Polizei und Staatsanwälte rechnen. Mitten in der Stadt steht die größte jüdische Synagoge Europas. Jüdische Mitbürger sind hier sicher. Es gibt keine Antisemiten, die ihren Israel-Hass auf den Straßen herausbrüllen, keine Islamisten, die ein Kalifat fordern. - Ungarn ist in vielem noch so, wie die Bundesrepublik Deutschland einmal war, bevor unsere Grenzen zerstört und unsere Art zu leben preisgegeben wurde.
