I wish I could project this message across the sky so every young woman would see it. Especially the girls from Ebonyi State.
The things I can afford for myself now? Even the men who were 10+ years older than me back then, trying to cajole a teenage me into marriage with one silly material promise or the other, cannot afford them for themselves.
Please study. Work hard. And wait, pleaseee. Life is not running away. Neither is enjoyment. Pleaseee wait🥺

If you wait long enough as a young woman, all of the experiences men promise you in return for sexual relationships with them, a woman will gift to you, or you start earning enough to gift them to yourself. Listen to me: WAIT.

In the early 2000s, this was a thing in my village. When we traveled for a burial, so I was reading aloud when my grandma just snapped the book away. "Why are you reading aloud and showing off, do you want these small cult boys to come and R"pe?" She yelled at me and left with the book.
I was confused, so I went to ask my cousins and the other kids around that stayed in the village, they said grandma was right, that they knew two girls that have been R"ped by these boys and some of the boys were the victims classmate and they believe the girls were targeted because they were topping their classes.
And the girls had to stop school because of the shame of what happened to them. I became cold.

Girls can’t even step out to pursue education without fearing rape. This country has failed its children.

If my parents hadn’t divorced…I would not have this house.
I still remember the day my mom moved to this house. She was full of regret.
I said, “Mummy, why the long face?”
“I never thought I would have to buy my own house,” mummy said.
All her life the only narrative she knew around home ownership as a woman was this: you marry, you move into a house with your husband, your husband’s house is your house.
This single story was so powerful in her mind that even when she accomplished the feat of buying a house of her own, she did not immediately see it as a marker of success.
To her at the time, the house was proof that she had failed to stay in her husband’s house.
Thankfully, I was around to snap her out of the mindset. What are daughter’s for?🧐
I reminded her of how hard she had worked. Not just to care for me and my cousins but to support our extended family too. How all her life, husband or not, she had always been a pillar to not just family but also friends.
“Mummy, do ya, if una no bin divorce ah no go get os na Ghana. Allow me do ya!😁”
I moved into my mom’s house in 2020. She retired in 2016 and returned to Sierra Leone in 2023. Since then, I’ve become head of household.
This week, I paid to paint the house for the first time. The torch has been passed.
My heart swells with pride every time I come outside and look at this house—my mama’s house—the house she never dreamed of because the only house she believed she would have was a husband’s house.
A reminder that even if you can’t dream about it, you can still achieve it. Life’s twist and turns can take you to heights beyond your imagination!
Good Morning from my mama’s house!
What single story have you been told that is stopping you from celebrating your wins?

I have a genuine question for everyone.
If you have a cleaning person who comes to your home and leaves on the same day.
Do you offer them food? Recently, my regular cleaner asked if he could have some garri to eat while I was eating, and it made me feel a bit uncomfortable.
I've thought about this before, but I'm concerned that offering food might create a sense of familiarity since I’m already paying for the service. What do you all think?

My dad bought Dangote shares around 2006
In 2022, the SEC published a list of unclaimed dividends. I searched for my dad's name, found it, and contacted the broker.
They processed it. I thought we'd become millionaires that day, but he only received a 62 naira alert 😂
Name cannot be blank@hackSultan
All the parents who bought bank shares for their children like 20 years ago. My condolences to all of you 🙏🏼🙏🏼
