@LondonPubMap @ThePrinceAlfred Not sure if you know US baseball. She bet me dinner and a play on the one game play off between the Yankees and Red Sox. Buckeyes Dent homered and that was our first date. Loved our return to the PA recently.

Stayed in Maida Vale during a semester abroad in college in '79. Loved this pub. The @ThePrinceAlfred was our go to after dinner. Loved the area. Went back recently to recreate memories. Where mu wife and I started dating.

As I’m in Maida Vale, no visit to this neck of the woods is complete without popping into one of London’s finest boozers, The Warrington Hotel.
English

@rwinser1 Gentrification has taken its toll on, but thankfully the memories are there.

@LondonPubMap Back in the late fifties, my mum and dad had their wedding reception upstairs at The Shirland. It was a proper, old-school West London boozer back then - definitely a bit rough around the edges by today’s standards, but a truly great and well respected local boozer.

@LondonPubMap Is that the one where you have to crawl to get into one of the small bar areas?
English

@LondonPubMap Was it called the Warrington castle at some stage?
English

@LondonPubMap He was Special Branch - an undercover spy pretending to be a left-wing locksmith! I should do a guided tour of those pubs :) The Warrington, the Alfred, and there was another one in Little Venice. Quite eccentric place.

@LondonPubMap I celebrated my (fake) engagement there! It's absolutely stunning, though. I lived on Elgin Ave at the time. Spoiled (except for the fake engagement situation).

@REDactionAFC A lot of pubs are now serving Modelo on draught, but it’s not a patch on the bottles.

English

@CasinoDolphin A little spendy, but enjoyable all the same.
English

@LondonPubMap Bit too bloody posh in there for my liking. Staff were all right though.
English

@TonyIncenzo It used to be a special day for the whole country.

Inside, there are two bars. The main bar is on the ground floor, with the servery on the right, booths, varied seating, and a stage. Upstairs, there is a more traditional bar, a rooftop terrace, and boutique bedrooms if you want to stay.
The decor is a mix of contemporary style with traditional touches, including tiled and boarded floors, bold colourful walls, drag-inspired artwork, stained glass, a bit of neon, restored Victorian details, and backlit Lily Savage displays.
The beer selection is all keg and offers a mix of mainstream and local brews. I decided on a Pravha; my pint was great, price point was above average. No food is served.
My brother and I arrived at 6:30 pm on a warm Saturday evening in early May. The pub was busy throughout, with an upbeat, buzzy atmosphere. The service was on point, and the team on duty were friendly and courteous.
There is entertainment on pretty much every night of the week, featuring cabaret, variety, comedy, and drag acts.
It’s great to see this landmark Camden pub brought back to life — well worth a look if you’re in the area. #camden

The Black Cap
📍171 Camden High St, London NW1 7JY
🚇Camden Town
The Black Cap is located in the heart of Camden on busy Camden High Street. The nearest Tube is Camden Town.
Dating back to 1751, this pub was originally called The Mother Black Cap, named after local legend Jinny Bingham (“Mother Damnable”), a reputed poisoner and practitioner of black magic. Originally located on the site of today’s Camden Town Tube station, it was relocated and rebuilt in 1889 with its distinctive gabled façade and stone bust of Mother Black Cap.
From the 1960s, the pub became a safe space for London’s gay community, earning the nickname “Palladium of Drag” in the 1970s and 1980s and helping launch acts including Paul O’Grady as Lily Savage. After closing in 2015 during a planning dispute, it reopened on 21 March 2026 following an 11-year campaign and a £2 million restoration.
