This is the former home of John Logie Baird at Sydenham Hill, where he and his family lived between 1933 and 1944. Baird was an electrical engineer who in the early 1920s created the world's first television system.

There are five pubs called Blue Posts within a small area of Central London, including this one in Berwick Street, Soho. The name is believed to be derived from the 18thC sedan chair (taxi) ranks. The early British film star Jessie Matthews took dancing lessons above the pub.

Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in Soho was first opened in 1959 by saxophonists Ronnie Scott and Pete King. In 1965 it moved to its current premises in Frith Street. Scott died in 1996 and in 2005 King sold the club to its current owners.

In 1852 the Crystal Palace moved from Hyde Park to Sydenham Hill. To serve the many visitors a new railway was opened. Crystal Palace was destroyed by fire in 1936 and the railway closed. Some of its route can still be traced, including the entrance to the Crescent Wood Tunnel.

@LondonStone Just about. In the 70s there used to be an inscription on the dockside ... 'SS GE launched 'ere' kind of thing, but then when the replaced it with a concrete quayside, no one thought to make a new inscription. Sad because it should be a detail visible to river traffic.

At the time of its completion in 1857 the SS Great Eastern, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, was the world's largest ship, able to carry 4,000 passengers. It was built on the Isle of Dogs, taking almost 3 months to launch, and the launch ramps still remain at Millwall.
