The weirdly exaggerated myths surrounding Rosalind Franklin are really something. She was a postdoc, not the "director" of the lab at King's College — that was John Randall. Watson was a postdoc at Cambridge, and Crick was a 35-year-old graduate student, having had his research work delayed by work on naval mines in World War II. The famous X-ray image showing the helical structure of DNA was taken by Raymond Gosling, a graduate student working with Franklin. It was transferred to Maurice Wilkins because Franklin had quit her job at King's, and the data belonged to the lab. She did not have the structure of DNA "completely mapped out," but in fact persisted in believing that A-DNA was not helical until 1953. She knew that B-DNA was either a single- or a double-helix, but had not fully worked out the structure by the time Watson and Crick did. Franklin died before the Nobel Prize was awarded for the work, and was therefore ineligible. Franklin's life story was remarkable enough without invented hagiography.

No, that's not how it went. Rosalind Franklin was the director of the associated research leading the main team on the DNA project. She had DNA completely mapped out. Another professor at her university handed off her notebook to a post doc and a grad student without permission. All the info was from Rosalind Franklin and her notes on Erwin Chargaff's work (they should have shared the Nobel Prize). Watson and Crick contributed NOTHING original to the project except a toilet tissue cardbaord tube cut out model of DNA that someone else later workshopped into metal for their final demo.

The American-led negotiations in Ukraine prolonged the war by encouraging Putin. The Russians dangled ludicrous business"deals" in front of Witkoff and Kushner who were too gullible to understand that they were being manipulated. Good the US has abandoned this failed policy
NEXTA@nexta_tv

⚡️ BREAKING: US halts Ukraine peace talks “We were the only ones both Russians and Ukrainians were willing to talk to. So we got involved. Unfortunately, it didn’t yield results. That’s the point,” — said Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Rubio added that Washington will return to negotiations only if the dynamics change, and noted: “If someone else wants to take this on — please, be my guest.”

@hodge_stick To acquire a nation’s citizenship, you must share its citizens’ misunderstandings about the nation’s own history. 🤔

@HollyGrayle Your kind truly is evil. You'll demand migrants to assimilate and the moment they do you'll bitch about the fact they've assimilated. Dumb whore.

The apparent failure to build a force equal to the foundational naval task of protecting the movement of civilian shipping through contested chokepoints is a grave indictment of our naval and national leadership. The choice to launch an ill advised war in one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints when a protection of shipping mission was apparently beyond the Navy’s ability to execute represents a strategic blunder by the Trump administration of epic proportions.
Collin Koh 🇸🇬🇺🇦@CollinSLKoh

@XplodingCabbage Surely not? Unless you are claiming all a GP’s remuneration is profit. Realistically most of it is remuneration for their labour

Have to say, at the point they got the “people think the NHS has a 34% profit margin” result, I would have stopped and asked what was going on with my methodology. Surely people don’t really think that Do they?
Institute of Economic Affairs@iealondon

📊 On average, Brits think the NHS makes a 34% profit. It doesn't make any. Supermarkets profits are estimated at 50%. The reality: 2–4%. Voters think energy companies make 57%. The reality: -5% to 15%. We are significantly overestimating how much companies profit.

Sad to read in @thetimes that Bridget Phillipson is blaming me for delay to EHRC Code. She certainly stoops low. She had Code for 3 months when she sent me this letter last November - no indication of any grandstanding then.

This is the direct result of Group Think at @TfL. In 2025 London recorded the highest level of serious cyclist injury since records began. Even higher than when cycle sport drove up cycling volume in 2011/12. The @MayorofLondon, @willnorman, @TfL and its board are hiding behind comparisons with 2010/14.
