Challenges that feel impossible to tackle within a single human lifetime become conceivable when you have a longer timescale to work with. Today is a day to take the long view. Join our community of long-term thinking, 02026 is going to be a good one. na2.hubs.ly/H02frJ50

“Twitter gives you one point of view. History will give you a completely different one.” The faster the news cycle spins, the more we catastrophize, says Stefan Sagmeister. Meanwhile, the things that improve tend to do so slowly and quietly—like voting rights and poverty rates. Watch Sagmeister's full Long Now Talk here: na2.hubs.ly/H04sgPQ0

This piece of music is playing continuously without repetition until the year 03000. In 02000, composer @jemfiner began @longplayer, a 1,000-year composition generated by an algorithm and performed on a set of singing bowls. The piece is evolving slowly over a millennium-long performance. You can hear the piece in person at a listening post in London at Trinity Buoy Wharf (pictured here) or tune in via the livestream. Longplayer was created in dialogue with The Long Now Foundation, and serves as a musical experience, an epic artwork, and an experiment in deep time and long-term thinking. He helped organize Electric Kool-Aid Acid Tests, create the Whole Earth Catalog, inspire the first Earth Day, make the personal computer a reality, build the first large online community, start the Long Now Foundation, and revive nuclear energy. @stewartbrand tells me why maintenance of systems is the most important task in front of us. We’re thrilled to welcome Belle Vance to the team as The Interval’s new rental events manager. In typical Long Now fashion, Belle has a fascinating and diverse background: she’s a classically trained harpist who has circumnavigated the globe, and spent two decades immersed in Ayurveda and Chinese medicine. Belle is your new point of contact for creating a one-of-a-kind event at The Interval, San Francisco’s most curious cocktail bar, museum, and library; home to the Long Now Foundation. Reach out for more info about booking The Interval here: na2.hubs.ly/H04nMHZ0

Isabella Kirkland paints life at the edge of disappearance. Each species rendered with precision, gathered into dense ecosystems that feel both abundant and fragile. A record of what exists before it changes again. More: explorers.com/isabella-kirkl… @longnow

Tierney Thys, marine biologist, science educator, and National Geographic explorer died last week. Her Long Now talk from 02014 with Sylvia Earl taught us about the importance of protecting the intelligences of the ocean. This is such a tragic loss, and a moment to recommit ourselves to marine sciences and planetary oceanic stewardship. This Wednesday (3/18) we’ll hear from scholar Melody Jue about Ocean Memory. We hope you’ll join us in continuing the conversation Thys helped inspire. In her talk, Thys concluded, “Life came from the ocean. And the life in it continues to nurture life everywhere. We owe the ocean some nurture back.” Watch the inspiring conversation here: na2.hubs.ly/H04k9550
