"... around one and a half years ago ... [t]here appeared a positive, encouraging theme that since then has kept growing and mutating, and bringing a lot of us together in conversation — unlikely companions, from all over the world and layers of society." @the_i_i/were-a-niche-we-just-didn-t-know-9561f662e127" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@the_i_i/were-…

We have more access to knowledge than any generation in human history—every book, lecture, and idea, instantly in our pockets. And yet, most people feel less informed, less certain, and less capable of forming a clear thought than ever before. We don't need more data. We need better filters. We need the space to stress-test ideas against other minds and the time to let thoughts breathe. What is a topic you’ve been consuming lately that you’d actually like to talk through with someone else?

Last Sunday, on our salon "Baghdad: Center of the World," we spent the evening traveling through a thousand years of history with our host Zachar Hopkins. We moved past the textbooks to find the living soul of the city—from the divine symmetry of its founding to the poets and merchants who made it the heart of the world.🌎️

Last December, political scientist @FukuyamaFrancis joined @TheAnnaGat for one of our most memorable SuperSalons "Does Discontent Kill Democracy?". They examined a persistent challenge in liberal politics: democracies don't only weaken through war or recession, but through ordinary discontent. As expectations rose and new generations came of age, citizens grew bored, status-anxious, hungry for struggle — eroding trust, empowering demagogues, and weakening institutions. Drawing on his work on liberalism and identity, they explored what resilience actually looks like when the enemy is not catastrophe but slow, creeping frustration.

We celebrate sincerity and look down on "empty" rituals. But as economist @robinhanson argues, even saying "please" is a powerful "as-if" performance that creates an egalitarian relationship. From our salon, "Between Performance and Sincerity," with host @stephengadubato.

Last September, historian and author Sophia Rosenfeld joined novelist and host @natashajouk for a conversation about choice — how we make it, how we got here, and why having more of it does not always make us freer. Drawing from her book The Age of Choice: A History of Freedom in Modern Life, they explored how choice became central to modern life and what that has cost us personally and collectively.
