The Protocol Institute launches today. I've spent the past three years contributing to its predecessor, Summer of Protocols, and I'll keep my Memory Research Group work going under the new institute's banner. I'm really excited to see where it heads from here.

The Protocol Institute just launched, studying how protocols shape civilization. Edge City has been part of this journey since 2024, hosting SoP sessions at our villages, including Edge Esmeralda and Edge City Lanna. Congrats to @TimBeiko, @vgr, @tmbr_ss, and the rest of the team!

Who’s doing the most interesting research on how to combat invasive insects and pathogens destroying North American trees? Citrus greening, emerald ash borer, Dutch elm, hemlock woolly adelgid, chestnut blight, etc.

Google has an internal "let it break" essay about a hero engineer whose hard work ends up being a net negative (by masking the underlying issues). My manager sent me that essay when I was trying too hard to get the collective TensorFlow unit test suite green.

In Europe, governments are increasingly building critical digital infrastructure on open protocols such as Matrix, driven by the push for digital sovereignty and legally mandated interoperability. It eliminates single points of dependency and can cut costs. But it only works if institutions adapt by building capacity for protocol engagement and changing procurement criteria which are based on the build it or buy it model. I wrote a Government Guide to Open Protocols for Protocolized: protocolized.summerofprotocols.com/p/a-government…

I create/invented a new SKILL for leading Claude Code through a structured Hegelian dialectic like process for doing deep investigation of topics. I've spent 40+ hours using it over the past 10 days — super addicting. It's as transformative for me as the original Deep Research.
