🚨 My people, make una see this eye-opener! 🇫🇷💧 Naija wey we dey fight water pollution every day... France drop almost $1.5 Billion (over ₦2.5 trillion!) to clean River Seine just so dem fit host Olympic swimming and triathlon in 2024 The major source of the contamination? Combined sewer overflows — old pipes wey mix household sewage and rainwater, then dump raw untreated faecal waste straight into the river anytime rain fall heavy. They had to build giant underground storage tanks to control the overflow. Here for Naija, we dey face the exact same sewer and wastewater issues. Just this week, Access Bank Oniru branch for Victoria Island get sealed by Lagos State because of improper wastewater discharge into public drains — untreated sewage wey dey affect our environment. This one teach us say sewer maintenance no be joke at all. If we no maintain am well, e go cost us plenty money later: hospital bills from waterborne diseases, flooding damage, lost productivity, and big economic loss. Water na life, and proper wastewater management go save us billions in the long run. As environmentalist, I believe we must begin to take this matter more serious across the country — government, companies, and individuals alike. Another Access Bank branch sealed…. Following a tip from another whistle blower, the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office in joint enforcement activities on yesternight sealed off another branch of Access Bank at Land Bridge Avenue, Oniru, Victoria Island having confirmed to be indiscriminately discharging raw feacal matter into the drainages causing fowl smell and environmental degradation in defiance of the State Environmental laws. The property will be sanctioned in line with the prevailing laws. #ZeroToleranceLagos
