On the bright side, no one should be able to criticize the Oilers for drafting Sam O’Reilly too early.

@NHL_Sid Don't know how much I trust kap up there, feels like the inconsistencies won't go away. It depends on the price tag too, are you willing to gamble or would rather get someone tried and true? (If possible)

Unfortunately, RNH is not a top-six player at even-strength at this point. His 5v5 points per 60 rate ranks 334th in the past two seasons. He had less 5v5 points than Nick Cousins and Jordan Martinook this year. Moving forward, I think you build a third line with him at 3LW.

@bcurlock I'm still bummed O'Reilly got moved, but it is what it is. You think Nicholl will pan out? I know it's early going still, but just curious

I cannot tell you how big of a deal it is that a 7th round pick merits an ELC signing. It is a big deal. That class now has 3 of the 7 picks signed to professional contracts (O'Reilly traded for Howard). Every organization needs players like this.
Edmonton Oilers@EdmontonOilers

The #Oilers have signed forward William Nicholl to a three-year entry-level contract beginning in the 2026-27 season. nhl.com/oilers/news/re…

Watched Condors side by side Oilers tonight. Condors more poised structurally which may explain why the young guys coming up are holding up well. Condors 1-0 win. Strong defensive game allowing 22 shots total. Only 16 at evens. Hutson now with 4 points in last 3. Coming on.

@bcurlock Kind of how it's felt for a while... When the effort is there, the systems don't feel like they're worth writing home about... But when the system seems to be working, they execute like it's their first time playing hockey...

Tale of Two Cities: The Oilers don’t have enough discipline on the F3 in the OZ and Tampa is feasting on the middle lane breakout. In their own zone, the Oilers unwillingness to breakout through the middle is getting them hemmed in too much. The Oiler Cs need to support here.

Three Quick Thoughts 1. Trade for a dozen guys, if you can’t defend, you can’t defend. 2. Need to see more of the new guys before forming an opinion. 3. Carolina is a great team, Edmonton is a mid-tier club. What you got tonight?

One thing that potentially worries me about Dickinson’s potential impact in Edmonton is that Mangiapane also had strong defensive numbers in both CGY and WSH. But in EDM, he went -17 at 5v5. Dickinson is a useful player. But will he succeed under Knoblauch? I’m not sure.

This 7th goal was certainly on Bouchard to a significant degree. To suggest his linemates were not culpable on a poor line change is a bridge to far. All were bad on this one. On the PPG, I believe the issue is Ekholm's read and perhaps a lack of communication. My 2 cents. 9/9

There was lots of chatter about Evan Bouchard from Saturday night's game. This got cranked up Monday when Coach Knoblauch spoke about his positioning on one goal. This created a lot of confusion for me, so I wanted to dig into his comments and #2. Here is what I found: 1/9

@Loom_Tunez By eye, I've liked his skating and zone exits, but yeah, his underlying numbers have been mediocre. I wonder if it has to do with him playing on his off-side. His results next to Nurse and Walman are ugly, but they're fine when paired with Emberson.

@NHL_Sid how has Stastney been? I know his fancies tell one tale, but the visual feels the opposite. Am I incorrect for thinking he's been decent despite underlying numbers?

@NHL_Sid If I can ask you one more question, do you think the focus on player flexibility has become almost detrimental? Seems like we've emphasized players who can play wing AND center, or dmen who can play both sides
