@LosAngelini I didn't have that last rule until I got to the 1900 election, when two new Republican State Senators (John G. Tyrrell and John R. Tyrrell) were each elected to their first and only terms.

John Francis Seymour Jr., the 999th person to serve in the California State Senate and the most recent Californian to promote directly from the State Senate to the US Senate, died April 18th. He was also California's most recent Republican US Senator. sacbee.com/news/politics-…

@LosAngelini Because all new members are sworn in together (except in some very rare cases) the order is 1) by date of inauguration, 2) by last name, 3) by first name, and 4) by middle initial. And yes, we have had people sworn in on the same day with the same first and last names. 😂

A California Senate committee has rejected a deeply flawed plan to change the state’s #antitrust laws, one that would trigger sweeping consequences for businesses and consumers alike and was identified as a Cost Driver on CalChamber’s annual Affordability Agenda. CalChamber and a coalition of business sector opponents made clear that the bill would have a chilling effect on the development of new platforms designed to meet the demands of California consumers and small businesses. #AffordabilityAgenda #CostDrivers #SB1074 #AntitrustLaws advocacy.calchamber.com/2026/04/22/law…

If you call Film LA, the very first option is to report a production you think should be shut down for not having a permit. The third option is to try and get a permit. If you don't get your application in my 10am a week before the shoot, they will not process your application. Not 10:05, not 12pm. Must be in by 10am. When you speak to the person at Film LA, they truly sound like they don't even want you to shoot there. I hope whoever our next mayor is shuts down Film LA and makes it free and easy to get a permit. LA has the best crews, the best casts, the best weather. It shouldn't be cheaper and easier to fly to Oklahoma and shoot there than it is to shoot at home. It's time to bring filmmaking back to LA.

We're not going to cross the Atlantic ocean. 1. No one has any idea how far away the nearest land is. It could be thousands of miles! 2. Surely we can just build faster caravels? The problem is that wind can only push you so fast. 3. There are no landmarks out on the ocean. Sure you can use the stars to determine your latitude, but with no way of knowing your longitude you'll just get hopelessly lost. 4. The storms are ferociously powerful. The waves are huge. Ships would sink long before they reached the other side of the ocean. 5. There's no fresh water. You'd need to carry it all with you, along with all your food. The more stores you carry, the less capable wind is of propelling you, and the slower you go. There's no way you'd be able to carry enough to avoid death by thirst or starvation long before you reached land. The Sail Equation prevents it.

We're not going to travel beyond the solar system, according to Leonard Susskind. And neither are aliens, coming to visit us. We may not be alone, but we are stuck here for, essentially forever. 1. The nearest star is 4.24 light years away. The fastest spacecraft ever built would require 6,600 years to get there. 2. Surely we can just build faster spacecraft. The problem is to get to anywhere close to the speed of light, we need exponentially more energy. 3. Chemical rockets will just not work. Even fusion rockets won't work. Even 10% of the speed of light is not achievable. The Tsiolkovsky Rocket Equation prevents it. 4. Interstellar dust becomes hand grenades when traveling anywhere close to the speed of light. Ships break. 5. Space radiation will kill us over the time need to travel interstellar distances. Impossible to protect without massive shields, which require massive energy to accelerate and de-accelerate.

When Shohei Ohtani was a high school freshman, he created a detailed "dream sheet" with one central goal: to be the #1 draft pick for 8 NPB (Nippon Professional Baseball) teams. It was a 64-cell roadmap based on a framework called the Harada Method. Here's exactly what Shohei did 👇 1. First, some history.... The Harada Method was created by Takashi Harada, a Japanese junior high track coach. He took a team ranked last out of 380 schools and, using his system, turned them into the #1 team in the region within 3 years. They held that top spot for the next 6 years. 2. You start by placing your main goal in the center of an 8x8 grid. For Ohtani, this was "be the #1 draft pick." 3. Next, you identify 8 critical supporting pillars needed to achieve that goal. These surround the main goal. Ohtani's 8 pillars were: • Body • Control • Sharpness • Speed • Pitch Variance • Personality • Karma/Luck • Mental Toughness 4. You then break down each of those 8 pillars into 8 smaller, actionable tasks or daily routines. This fills out the entire 64-cell grid, turning a massive dream into a concrete, daily action plan. To improve his karma, he listed tangible actions like: • Showing Respect to Umpires • Picking up trash • Being positive • Being someone people want to support 5. The method goes far deeper than just technical skills. It forces you to analyze your weaknesses and build confidence. It also has a highlight on service to others, emphasizing that humility and contributing to your community are essential for personal success. 6. The key to the system is daily execution and accountability. Once the 64-cell chart is complete, you turn the tasks and habits into a daily diary and a "Routine Check Sheet." It’s designed to transform abstract intentions into a measurable, daily practice.
