Democrats spent $70 million on this referendum. Almost every penny came from out of state. They broke laws. They wrote a deceitful ballot measure. They ran tv spots for two months, nonstop. They brought in Obama. They brought in Hollywood. We had grassroots. That’s really it. They only beat us by 70k votes. In an April election. Here’s the most ironic part … what do you notice? All that money, all that effort, and all they did was prove our 6/5 map is accurate. Almost exactly.

New England mastered the art of gerrymandering years ago The 6 states are 40% Red They have 33 seats between them So they have 13 Republicans, right? Wrong. They have 1. This is modern day taxation without representation coming full circle to the birthplace of the Revolution

@mattforney So you have no knowledge of REDMAP or the name Thomas Hofeller - the architect of the biggest gerrymandering effort in modern history. Rs rigged maps in a dozen stats and netted themselves a 33 seat House majority in 2012 with 1.4M fewer votes. But yeah, NY "started this fight".

The first mid-decade redistricting of the 2020s was when New York passed a gerrymandered map in 2024. This was after they had tried to cram all the state's Republicans into four out of 26 districts only to get sued for violating the state constitution and a special master was appointed to draw fair maps. In the 2022 midterms, the extreme unpopularity of both Joe Biden and Kathy Hochul saw the Republicans gain four of New York's seats (the net change was only +3 due to New York losing a Republican district in the Buffalo suburbs). This was the best result the GOP had in the state in decades. A year later, the Democratic state government sued to replace the fair map with a slightly-less gerrymandered map and the Republicans lost three seats in 2024 despite getting roughly the same percentage of the vote. So no, YOU literally started this fight. Joke's on you, though, at least in New York; population loss from primarily Republican upstate has stalled while people are fleeing NYC like cockroaches from a floodlight. The next Census will force the Democrats to drop one or two seats from the NYC area.

@Royals I'll never go to a game. Downtowns loud, dirty, filled with drug addicts/homeless, no highway access etc. And tell me, where are 60K people parking for a ballgame? What happens when the theatre, TMobile AND the stadium have events on the same night? Stupid fucking idea.

@JimAlba23 @Royals The Kaufman Stadium layout is an ancient relic of yesteryear. No one wants a ballpark miles away from entertainment and retail surrounded by a sea of parking lots anymore. If the urban walkable "Stadium District" thing can work for STL, PIT, CIN, DET, BAL, it can work for KC.

I travel to a different MLB stadium every summer with my son, and last summer we went to KC. I've always loved Kaufmann Stadium and it was great to finally go there, and one of the best things about it was the parking and getting in/out of the stadium was so easy. The stadium was just about full, so it wasn't a case of a small crowd, but there was lots of room and easy access to highways. With a downtown ballpark, all of that will go away- parking will be terrible and expensive, and traffic getting in and out will be awful. No public transportation will fix that. Such a shame.

CNN's @ScottJenningsKY on Virginia's Democrat gerrymander: "Virginia had -- literally had the fairest maps in the nation. They had a 6-5 map, six Democrats, five Republicans. In terms of proportional representation, they had the fairest map in the nation. That was drawn, by the way, by an independent commission that the voters asked for just a few years ago. Now they will have the least fair maps in the nation. And I'm not surprised that the yes vote won. They had all the money and all the lies. And sometimes in politics, when you got those two things, you can put something over the line, even something as egregious as this. This whole thing has driven Spanberger's approval ratings down into the toilet. She lied to the people of Virginia. They had to write a ballot question that was a joke. @JoshEakle Bingo Josh! Republicans block every attempt at a national ban on gerrymandering, while Dems support it. We know they’ll never disarm voluntarily so Dems must aggressively redraw maps in blue states, win big federally, then pass the ban + reforms we’ve always supported.

I hate gerrymandering. I've long advocated for proportional representation and ranked choice voting. I've long supported a ban on gerrymandering across the board. But recently Republican mid cycle redistricting has been engineered purely to manufacture majorities through cheating, in a year they know they're destined to lose. Virginia's recent victory against it is beautiful precisely because it calls the GOP's bluff and exposes their hypocrisy. Between now and 2030, Democrats must meet this escalation with even greater escalation. We should push for these redistricting efforts harder in every Democratic-run state. Ultimately, if Republicans shrink to a small enough minority, Democrats will finally have the majority needed to pass the anti-gerrymandering and electoral reforms we've championed for years. Only through overwhelming GOP defeat can we end this cycle once and for all.
