@oIIyjm @IainDale The defence is: The independent vetting process was duly conducted and was failed by M. Someone then overrode the failure, and adjudged that M could nevertheless be appointed. This was the "outcome" reported to ministers. The fact that M had failed vetting was not reported.

@IainDale Yvette Cooper and Olly Robbins have already explained that "Ministers" were informed of the outcome of the security vetting. Starmer is clearly telling porkies.

@joerichlaw @theipaper “No part of the vetting process was removed, or skipped in the case of Peter Mandelson”. Mandelson failed the process, but the process was followed, so on we go!

@Khaledhzakariah No, she didn't lie: she said the vetting process was conducted independently in the usual way. She just didn't go on to say that Mandy had failed the process. Labour are relying on lawyer's quibbles at this point, and everything they say must be parsed carefully.

@115tpryan @CalumMillerLD FCDO had M vetted. M failed vetting. FCDO knew via McSweeney that PM wanted M appointed. Appt. had in any event been announced before the vetting process had been completed. FCDO therefore overrode the failure, and cleared M. PM claims he only learned this on Tuesday.

No10’s account is incredible. I held Developed Vetting for nearly ten years and spent three years at the heart of the Cabinet Office. I have never heard of a Developed Vetting denial being overruled. Here’s why…🧵

BREAKING: Downing Street says that neither Keir Starmer nor David Lammy knew that Peter Mandelson failed his security vetting - and lays blame with Foreign Office official for overruling the decision.

@CalumMillerLD But political appointees aren't DV'd. SPADs turn up the day a minister is appointed and operate without DV. Any vetting is light touch at best. So the reality could be a light touch process saw Mandelson waived through. Not great but there's precedent. Think Boris Johnson.

🚨MILITARY MUTINY: GENERALS REBEL AGAINST STARMER! The British Army is in open revolt! Top generals have just broken ranks to accuse PM Keir Starmer of a "spineless betrayal" of veterans. Even the elite SAS is joining the fight, advising its members to REFUSE evidence in what they call "show trials." But the real bombshell? A hidden legal "trap" is waiting for three veterans on April 20th, and what happens next could trigger a total collapse of government authority forever...

I thought Neil Kinnock would win. I had forgotten that John Major won by such a big margin in terms of vote share: 7.5%. Not so big in terms of seats. Major then threw it all away only a few months later on the European Exchange Rate mechanism debacle, from which he never recovered.

Today we are lifting 450,000 children out of poverty with the end of the two-child limit.  This Labour Government is achieving the biggest reduction in child poverty over a Parliament since records began.  Change promised. Change delivered.

DC juries are not responsible for the fact that only poor people and minorities ever go to jail. The Epstein files over definitive proof that wealthy Americans can steal, rape and murder and they will face no repercussions. Their crimes never even get prosecuted so your preoccupation with juries is misplaced.

The people doing this think they’re the resistance; they’re really just mid-level bureaucrats who got mad that they could no longer leave the office at 4 PM or work from home daily when @PamBondi arrived. And they do not represent all DOJ career staff.

SCOOP -- Pam Bondi portraits quickly tossed into trash bins after @realDonaldTrump Trump fired her. DOJers still smarting about the time Bondi removed a career national security official over some Biden portrait still hanging on an office wall . W @KDilanianMSNOW ms.now/news/pam-bondi…

@WillTatton @CeeMacBee The speed of the transition is an issue, and until the intermittency problems inherent in an electricity generation system based on renewables are solved, we will have unreliable electricity. That renewables technology relies on Chinese supplies is a security risk.

@CeeMacBee We couldn't be self sufficient in fossil fuels if we tried. We can be self sufficient in renewables. If you want to reduce imports this is the only viable option.

Here is my new paper for the Great British Business Council on the importance of oil, gas and coal to the UK economy. The UK’s industrial decline is not inevitable, but the result of decades of deliberate policy choices that have undermined domestic energy production and driven manufacturing offshore. Lowering UK employment and tax revenues, while increasing the UK trade deficit. The paper also includes a plan to reverse this. gbbc.uk/uk-deindustria…

🚨DICTATORIAL POWER GRAB EXPOSED: UK SPEAKER CALLS FOR TOTAL MISINFORMATION BAN AND URGES GOVERNMENT TO CENSOR SOCIAL MEDIA WORLDWIDE! 💬🚫 This Clip Of Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle Talking About Social Media Is Quite Revealing And What He Is Suggesting Is Extremely Authoritarian And Orwellian 🤨 In this eye-opening interview, Commons Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle starts by correctly stating that threats, incitement to riots, and suggestions to attack others have no place online. However, he quickly escalates into dangerous territory by lumping in "misinformation" and declaring that the fact is, misinformation is dangerous and no misinformation should be allowed on any social media platform. He issues a direct warning to nations like the US, insisting it does not matter what country you are in because misinformation is dangerous. Hoyle stresses that everything posted must be factual and correct, or else the government needs to think long and hard about new laws and what bill it will push through Parliament to control social media. This broad call for a blanket ban on anything deemed "misinformation" reeks of Orwellian censorship, handing authorities the power to decide truth while silencing dissent. Free speech is once again under threat.

@kellro36 Our Constitution relies on the observance of conventions and customs. The obligation of ministers in both Houses to answer questions in good faith is one of them, and is of the essence in making government accountable to Parliament. This is especially the case with PMQs.

@craigkellyAFEE All renewables (properly, "intermittents") require backup. In the absence of gas, backup is switching to coal.
