I think it's just mass production like any other industry. Think of like a company right now that is running it's business in the cloud like Target for example. The manager probably uses some kind of inventory software and in the past, they would manually manage the inventory. Then one day someone wrote another piece of software that just did that one little job, just watch the inventory and let the manager know when they are getting low so they don't have to check every day. That saves a little time. Then, a few years later they came out with a new piece of software to automate the ordering also so the manager can save time there and focus on other things. That saves some more time. Every time a business has a need, there can be some time before software could be written. It can take time to hire a dev, or wait for an internal dev to finish another project, etc. In a nutshell, software takes a lot of time. Now AI comes along. You can just turn on an 'agent', tell it the job you want it to do and it just does it. You don't have to wait for software to get created, and you don't have to wait for someone to be trained. You just say what you want done and it's done. What company isn't going to want that? That's why they need so much.
