In a recent interview with GameRant, Nick Apostolides (@Nik_apostolides), who plays Leon Kennedy in Resident Evil Requiem, spoke about his role and what the original actor who played the character meant to him.
Apostolides, who took on the role of Leon Kennedy in the 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2, has been a fan of the series for 28 years. During the interview, the conversation about Leon's evolution and his return to Raccoon City turned into a tribute to the late Paul Haddad, who voiced the character in 1998 and passed away in April 2020.
With warmth and sincerity, he expressed his deep appreciation for Haddad, who laid the foundation that Apostolides has been honored to build upon since taking on the role. Not only did he land what he considers a dream job — as he confirmed at the beginning of the interview that he is "still trying to process it" — but he also clearly understands that the opportunity to bring one of video games' most beloved protagonists to life is not something to be taken for granted.
The actor also shared that Haddad reached out to congratulate him when he got the role, describing the moment as an emotional handoff that led to a friendship.
Apostolides emphasized that his intention is not to replace Haddad, but to build on the foundation he laid. Leon Kennedy's legacy spans several eras, but it began with the man who brought him to life.
