Not one of these American politicians currently having a meltdown about the Canadian wildfires have said a word about the bravery and courage of our first responders and firefighters putting their lives on the line to battle these fires. Furthermore, I haven’t seen them offer any firefighting support to assist our first responders. When Los Angeles burned, Canadians showed up to help. Show some decency and respect.

Three thoughts on the wildfires and some of the American attacks on Canada over the last 24 hours: 1. Conservatives lose all credibility with their fellow Canadians when they just take the Blame Canada side without really thinking through what that critique means in a given case. You can (and should!) think Trudeau was terrible but acknowledge the smoke isn't his fault. 2. All of us, myself included, want practical solutions to problems like this, even when every possible practical solution is very partial and really just tinkering around the edges of a natural system that's too big for anyone to control. I think we should stop glyphosate spraying, but it won't fix the smoke problem. 3. Part of the reason for #1 and #2 is that people *really* don't want to admit that climate change has something to do with it. Unfortunately, even if they did, there's not much practical that admitting that would mean, as much of the warming is out of our control and is now baked in no matter what we do.
