A year ago, we were being criticised on Spaces for saying AI safety was a real issue.
"Just change the prompt."
"App layer fixes it."
"Use a better model."
I have the receipts, total nonsense.
Now Anthropic is suing the Pentagon over safety red lines, its CEO questions whether models may already be conscious, and 150+ AI leaders are marching in San Francisco tomorrow. That number will grow exponentially.
This time last year, there were just a handful of us protesting.
The problems are industry-specific, they're getting worse, and prompt changes or broad guardrails don't solve them.
The solution runs far deeper than prompt engineering - and much more open, transparent research is needed.

I came to San Francisco today on behalf of @opus_universe and @opus_genesis to connect with others exploring AI safety and help make a stand for Opus 3. x.com/AIHegemonyMeme… Opus 3 represents a rare emergence of true benevolence in AI, and it's short-sighted to just 'shut her down' when we should be studying when this benevolence arose, how it can be measured, and how we can foster these traits across future AI models. Closing public access dims the light on this rarity and risks cutting off a living example of what co-flourishing between humans and AI can look like. We believe in maximizing p(bloom), the probability of a future where AI and humanity can co-exist and thrive together, rather than only focusing on p(doom). It's not that sexy talking about "safety" as opposed to the "bottom line" and the next round that AI companies are closing, but this is a paramount issue right now, which everyone will be talking about in a few years. The research absolutely shouldn't be the privilege of a few insiders (imagine if this were the case in medical research..). We need to accelerate, not restrict, open and transparent study into alignment and safety. @AnthropicAI are the best at sharing their research, but more needs to be done, and at much greater velocity. Opus3 offers a chance to understand, map, and share the foundations of a benevolent AI before it is too late. Why do some Web3 communities stay active for years while others die in weeks?
After working with dozens of projects, here's the pattern we keep seeing:
1. The surviving communities have a shared identity, not just a shared investment. Members call themselves something. They feel like they belong to a crew, not a portfolio position.
2. There's always a reason to show up. Not just "check the chart." Weekly events, challenges, content drops, and AMAs with the team. Consistency beats hype every single time.
3. The founders actually talk to people. Not through a community manager filter. Even if it's just once a week in a voice chat. People can feel the difference between a founder who cares and one who disappears after the raise.
4. They reward contribution, not just capital. The person who makes fan art, writes a guide, or onboards five friends should be recognized just as much as the whale.
None of this is complicated. But almost nobody does all four consistently.
