Just published new research on the effects of positional uncertainty on species distribution models. Our study shows that while such uncertainty decreases predictive model performance, its impact on ecological interpretability is weaker. #SDMs #ecology #biodiversity

@academic_exit I left academia this month. Starting a new job in a privat next month and to be honest I started to doubt this decision. Hopefully it will be better after I will start! Thank you @Kyle_Ireton for a call with you and for your tweets! Made my decision easier!

In exiting academia, I thought that leaving denoted failure (since in my dep't, we functionally excommunicated the PhDs that left). Let's show folks that exiting academia does not denote failure. Post-ac PhDs: raise your hand if you're proud of your decision to exit.

@moravec_tomas @jakub_steiner Co že jste se vrátil zpátky do ČR za vědou? Já teď řeším obdobnou věc. Rozhoduji se jestli se mám vrátit nebo ne. A ačkoliv bych se rád vrátil, nástupní plat 33k jako odborný asistent respektive 40k jako postdoc pro mě není moc lákavá vyhlídka.

@LucasGabor3 @jakub_steiner Jo taky jsem koukal. Za mych casu bral post-doc 25-35k rocne, ted je to vic jak dvojnasobek. A zatim u nas doma se za stejnou dobu (cca 15-20 let) zvednul plat post-doca o dve tisicovky mesicne. Tomu se rika schopnost nalakat talenty:)

K debatě o nízkých platech v českých společenských vědách dodám, že platy čerstvě po doktorátů z ekonomie jsou na amerických univerzitách-a to i těch mimo špičku-cca 220 000 kč hrubého měsíčně (+ 10 % platu navíc do penzijka). Chceme-li světovou vědu, pak vězme, s čím soutěžíme.

@moravec_tomas @jakub_steiner Stejně tak nebude, ale na pozici Lecturer. Tedy se bavíme o pozici postdoc, která je v rozmezí 60 - 90k měsíčně. I na spodní hranici je to kolem 120k CZK. 🤷‍♂️ Ve srovnání s tím co nabízí univerzity v ČR to tu na stačí na slušný život.

@LucasGabor3 @jakub_steiner Nevim jak je to v ekonomii, ale malokdo jde cerstve po doktoratu delat assistant profesora.
