Today, a party-line committee vote advanced Senate Bill 1599, a measure that would move the vote on the transportation tax referendum to the May 2026 primary election after it was already certified for the November 2026 general election by the Secretary of State. “When the voters of Oregon take their time to weigh in how they did in such a short amount of time, with almost four times as many signatures as needed…and we’re saying — ‘No, we don't hear you, we don't care. Oregonians rallied together to refer the proposed transportation tax to the ballot in record time. We collected more than the 250,000 signatures to refer it to voters. They signed petitions that clearly set the election day to November 3rd, giving them the right to an election on that day.   Rather than allow Oregonians to vote on the measure in November, when participation is highest, Democrats are trying to fast track the election into a low-turnout primary, where far fewer Oregonians will have a voice. Oregonians followed the rules. They signed the petitions. They earned a vote. Now Democrats want to move the referendum to a low-turnout May election because they don’t like the outcome they’re afraid of in November. That’s not leadership. That’s manipulation.

Oregonians deserve clarity — not political theater. This week, some lawmakers announced a “new” legislative agenda to push back on federal actions. But here’s what’s important to know:  👉 Much of what’s being described is already Oregon law.  👉 Several proposals are legally unenforceable or purely symbolic.  👉 And others simply repackage existing protections as something new. Oregon already has strong anti-discrimination laws, limits on state cooperation with federal immigration enforcement, protections for students, and clear rules governing state data and public funds. If there are gaps in the law, let’s debate them honestly. If there are real threats, let’s address them responsibly. But Oregonians should never be misled into believing we’re starting from zero — or that press conferences equal progress. Our focus remains where it belongs: real solutions, constitutional guardrails, and public trust. We can protect people and tell the truth at the same time.

Law enforcement targeted violent gang members.

Yesterday, two suspected Tren de Aragua gang associates—let loose on American streets by Joe Biden—weaponized their vehicle against Border Patrol in Portland. The agent took immediate action to defend himself and others, shooting them. The driver of the vehicle, Luis David Nico Moncada is a criminal illegal alien from Venezuela and suspected Tren de Aragua gang member. He illegally entered the U.S. in 2022 and was RELEASED into the country by the Biden administration. Since then, he was arrested for DUI and unauthorized use of a vehicle. He has a final order of removal.   The passenger, Yorlenys Betzabeth Zambrano-Contreras is a criminal illegal alien from Venezuela and is associated with Tren de Aragua. She illegally entered the U.S. in 2023 near El Paso, Texas, and was RELEASED into this country by the Biden administration. Since illegally entering, Contreras played an active role in a Tren de Aragua prostitution ring and was involved with a prior shooting in Portland.
