To be the scapegoat child of narcissistic parents is to live like a ghost among the living. No matter what you achieve or how brightly you shine, they look past you, as though your presence can’t register in their reality. Anything good about you is dismissed, ignored, or attacked, and even your existence feels like something they refuse to acknowledge. Instead, they see someone you’re not — a distorted version of you they’ve invented to carry everything they don’t want to face within themselves. It’s as if they’re interacting with a character from an alternate reality, speaking to a phantom version of you that only exists in their mind. The result is an eerie disconnect, where your real self is invisible while their false image of you becomes the only version they respond to. Cont.
