Celebrating the launch of the @CareWorkersFund Care Worker Advisory Board today! Speaking at the launch event, the Minister for Care mostly focused on NHS reform but reiterated the government's commitment to a new Fair Pay Agreement in social care.

Great to attend today's @WorkFoundation roundtable on the care workforce #LDConf. Clear consensus that the status quo is unsustainable – government must act to improve wages, conditions & training for care workers. More on the former in our recent report: health.org.uk/publications/n…

What do Scotland, Wales, New Zealand, Australia and France have in common? They have, to date, taken more ambitious steps than England to improve care worker pay. My new long read follows up on recent report with @NinaHemmings92 @LucindaRAllen @HealthFdn to take more of a look.

"One of the things we have committed to is the cap on care costs" Shadow health secretary Wes Streeting agrees it's not "fair" that a viewer's mother has had to spend £430,000 during the seven years she has been living in a care home #BBCLauraK bbc.in/4enPWLG

Once again, councils look to give the government cover to delay the cap on care costs. The cap was recommended by Dilnot in 2011, legislated for in 2014 and first set to be implemented in 2016.

This would be the third time #socialcare reform has been postponed. If we’d introduced reform as planned in 2023 (the 2nd attempt), around 49,000 more people would now be receiving state funded support. theguardian.com/society/articl…

@LucindaRAllen @skillsforcare @cglobont The new govt must urgently address low pay by tackling illegal underpayment of wages & consulting the sector on a sector minimum wage & national pay scale. If they get this right, it's an opportunity to improve the lives of thousands of care workers & the quality of people’s care

@IpsosUK @skillsforcare @NinaHemmings92 There is also lots to learn from other countries. Our report draws on learning from Scotland and Wales’ experiences introducing a sector minimum wage; and Australia, France & New Zealand’s experiences introducing a sector pay scale. More to come on this in @cglobont’s longread 👀

On an average day in May 4,700 patients waited in A&E for more than 12 hours. 300,000 have been on the waiting list over a year. Things are so much worse than a decade ago. What’s happened, why and what’s needed to fix things? A🧵on our new long read: 1/14
