Who was your pick in Street Fighter II Turbo? Mine was either Ryu or Guile (that hair was just too good!)

30 years ago, some of the most iconic games were released. All these are from the year 1996 - and sadly 6 of those game studios are no longer with us. Most epic game from 1996 that you remember (either from this list or your own memory)?

The way many people online describe "old-school play" with TTRPGs makes it sound like the most boring nonsense, like a worse implementation of Diablo. If I want dungeon hack-and-slash today, a video game does it better.

Probably top 3 ever in terms of soundtrack for a game: Ascendancy (The Logic Factory, 1995). Watch the video and simply listen... especially the vibe change at the 0:29 mark. What stood out right from the start was the design/style. Ascendancy not only looked very different, but the soundtrack was so spacey and eery, even a bit haunting at times, it felt like something completely unique and was a truly perfect fit. It also had a very novel approach to the tech tree (which was less linear compared to other strategy games), a unique ship design, and a well balanced and complex diplomacy system. The overall goal is to lead your alien race to victory, through colonization of other planets, building a fleet, exploring, and researching new technologies (incl. weapon and shield systems). The Logic Factory made one more game after this one: The Tone Rebellion - which flopped (sadly). So, essentially they're one of those rare "one hit wonder" game studios that only hardcore fans will remember. If you liked Master of Orion, you should give Ascendancy a try, trust me.
