I don’t want to "download the app" to pay for parking. I don’t want to "create an account" to see a menu. I don’t want to "provide feedback" on a 30-second interaction. I just want to exist in the physical world without a digital leash.

This document should keep you awake at night. The govt’s National Risk Register now ranks losing our drinking water alongside a PANDEMIC as one of the two biggest threats facing the country This year, in the right-hand document: The chances of “Catastrophic impact” on our drinking water supplies - up to a one in four chance. Last year, same document (on the left) rated it a minor risk. Bottom of the chart. So what changed? Nothing changed! Water is still in private hands and depute the Water Special Measures Act deteriorating rapidly. This is where 36 years of privatised water has brought us. Tens of billions handed to shareholders. Over £60 billion of debt racked up on water assets that should belong to al of us. Leaking pipes. No new major reservoirs. Sewage in our rivers, on our beaches, in our sea. They didn’t invest. They extracted. And now the state’s own risk experts are telling us the tap water could go. And the regulators? They watched. Fines for pollution became a business expense. Thames Water’s creditors are now asking for their pollution fines to be written off. You couldn’t make this stuff up!!!! So let’s cut the crap about ‘tougher control’ of water companies. We’ve tried that for 36 years. It ended with drinking water on the national risk register next to a pandemic. You can’t regulate a cash machine into caring about you. There’s one answer. Bring water back into mutualised public ownership. Run for people, not profit. Answerable to bill payers, not bondholders. Every single pound going back into the pipes and reservoirs we should have built decades ago. Water is life. And yet we’ve watched it turned it into a payday. Time to take it back.

Jeffrey Epstein’s survivors were failed while he was alive. They were failed when he received protection. And 211 days after a legally mandated deadline, they are still fighting their own government for transparency. Do not let this disappear from the headlines.

Ella no huyó. Aunque estaba en estado de shock, les contó a las personas a su alrededor lo que había hecho y esperó a que llegara la policía. Fue condenada a 5 años y medio de prisión, pero gracias a una masiva campaña pública pidiendo su indulto, fue liberada.

It takes some brass-neck for a person on £100k+ a year, with £200k expenses, a free house with all bills paid & work at a place with subsidised food & alcohol to tell a disabled person their £30 a week PIP is too much.

When Thatcher left office, Britain was in deep recession and two million people were unemployed. Funny how that bit always gets left out when rightwingers eulogise the supposed miracle of the 1980s British economy.

No new reservoirs have been introduced to the UK since water was privatised. £80,000,000,000 in profit has been made for private companies however.

PPE money was not 'wasted', it was stolen. If someone defrauded the benefits system to the tune of £10bn, would they say it was 'wasted'? No they would say it was stolen, even if it was 1p.

Once again - the cost of inaction. Investing in tackling the climate crisis is vital for our national security and an important opportunity to invest in our communities. At the very least, the Government should stop making things worse!

The UK's June heatwave caused a £2.4bn hit to productivity, says a new report It says the cost of extreme heat could reach £6bn/yr by 2030 Interesting, bc we tend to focus on the cost of cutting emissions, rather than cost of failing to do so… verdantthinking.org/publications-a…

Final final thought… It’s not that Tuchel is a bad manager - he isn’t. He got England to within a whisker of a World Cup final and he made some good decisions in other games at this tournament. I don’t think he should be sacked but I do hope, in time, his changes his opinion on having ‘no regrets’. He spoke of ‘bravery’ throughout the tournament and then his team retreated to their own penalty box and gave the best player we may have ever seen space to whip the ball in time and time again. Scaloni after the game… “We smelt blood when England hesitated".
