If there’s anything to take from the search for the missing F-15 pilot, it’s that fighter pilot training go beyond flying jets. They train to evade enemy capture, a discipline known as SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape). In 2021 a NAF pilot survived and evaded Boko Haram after his Alpha jet was shot down in Zamfara. After ejecting from his jet the pilot was pursued on land by Boko Haram fighters. He utilized his survival training to evade them, navigating through rough terrain while avoiding detection. He sought refuge in nearby settlements and hid in the bushes to escape the Boko Haram search party. He walked several kilometres to a military camp, evading capture until he reached a secure location. A NAF jet, deployed as part of a rescue operation provided air cover and intimidated the search party, allowing the pilot to reach a nearby military camp.
