I think if Hayes was capable of being that true starting caliber center the Lakers, he’d have shown that by now.
He’s still a very solid backup at best, but I don’t think the Lakers can be considered a contender if he’s eating most of your minutes at center.

Dave with ESPN made it sound a lot (on ESPN LA radio) like after retaining Austin and figuring out Lebron, the next in line to bring back as a priority is ....Jaxson Hayes. Cited his Slovenian national team connection and improved play (how he outplayed atyon most of the season and game 4 v okc, specifically) Im not saying its the move, but i think theres people in that building that believe after a couple years as back up, Hayes can take a "Derrick Lively type of leap" as the starter and they just need to get a legit back up in free agency...
