😂 This “Nakba Survivor” is literally a “European settler” In the late 19th century, Muslim Bosnians (including Inea’s grandparents), fled Bosnia to Ottoman Syria, after Austria-Hungary took control of Bosnia. They feared that now, the Christians will seek revenge after years of mistreatment. Inea’s father’s family lived in Tulkaram, but he himself lived in Jerusalem where Inea was born. In the 1930’s, Inea’s father had a Job in England, he returned to Mandatory Palestine after a few years, but in 1948 they decided to move back to England. They were not expelled, and no one forced them to move to England. As a matter of fact, Tulkaram, and the old city of Jerusalem remained under Jordanian Arab control. Not a single Zionist to bee seen there. So in summary, this is a European with no strong roots in the land of Israel, whose family made the decision to immigrate back to the continent of their grandparents instead of remaining under Arab control. (And the “visit Palestine” poster on her wall is a Zionist poster by Franz Kraus to encourage Zionist tourism to the holy land. It’s not even the original poster, but a replica of the poster, with an additional Hebrew description mentioning his name 🤦‍♂️)

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani@NYCMayor

Today marks Nakba Day, an annual day of remembrance to commemorate the expulsion of more than 700,000 Palestinians between 1947 and 1949 during the creation of the State of Israel and the year that followed. Inea is a New Yorker and a Nakba survivor. She shared her story with us — one of home, tradition and memory over generations.

First airports, now ports. How did we go from Canada "is not for sale" to literally selling off our infrastructure?

Leaving Islam is not like leaving Christianity. When a Christian leaves Christianity, whether into atheism, agnosticism, or some form of spirituality, they are still moving within a moral landscape shaped by Christianity itself. Western civilization is the child of Christendom. The ex-Christian is not existentially disoriented, because the cultural air he breathes remains Christian, even if God has been removed from the equation. He does not need to rebuild the world. The world he lives in was already built by Christianity. In that sense, the ex-Christian remains Christian, whether he likes it or not. By contrast, when a Muslim leaves Islam, he inevitably begins to build his new morality upon the foundations that Christianity laid and the West later globalized, whether he realizes it or not. Concepts like freedom of conscience, intrinsic human dignity, the moral status of women, and the rejection of coercion in religion are not neutral, universal values. They are historically Judeo-Christian values, developed through centuries of theological, legal, and cultural evolution in the West. If that same ex-Muslim remains in, or is surrounded by an Islamic culture, the dissonance becomes unbearable. Because he is now internally structured by one moral system, but externally surrounded by another that is categorically antithetical. When a Christian leaves Christianity, he leaves a room and stays in the same house. When a Muslim leaves Islam, he is exiled from the house entirely.

Takaichi government just announced they will import unlimited foreigners as their official policy. Which means, in jest few decades, the entire country will be foreigners and mixed race. We protested, doesn't work. We voted for the anti-immigration party, only got 10% What do you think we should do? If we lose the country, we won't have another one. Do you have any suggestions?

Today's big bold announcement. "Canada’s new government is launching a new National Electricity Strategy. This plan will double the capacity of our grid by 2050 and supply clean, reliable, affordable power across the country for decades to come." No one ever bothers fact-checking these clowns. Electrification of Canada began in the 1880s, but took off in earnest in the 1930s. There was a huge push in the 1970s, especially in Quebec, BC and Manitoba. It took over 100 years, and more than a trillion in investment to get it to where it's at. Just maintaining the system is costing in the order of $20-25 billion a year, with all the aging infrastructure. There's no way we will double our capacity in 24 years.

Japan had almost no Jewish population. There were never more than a few thousand Jews in the empire at any one time. Yet between roughly 1918 and 1945, Japanese publishers produced hundreds of books, pamphlets, and articles on what they called the "Jewish question" (yudaya mondai 猶太問題) or the "Jewish peril" (yudayaka 猶太禍). Specialist periodicals on the subject ran for years. Senior military officers built their careers on it. A Parliament member made it his signature issue. The Imperial Army and Navy each had designated experts on the matter. Cabinet-level policy meetings produced formal documents on how Japan should respond to international Jewry. How did a country with no Jews come to have a substantial antisemitic intellectual tradition?

I find it really funny when people say “Britain has no culture” How about the culture of excellence that created liberal democracy, enforced the end of slavery, steam engines, World Wide Web, anti biotics, industrialisation. You can’t see it cause it’s all around you.
