I would love to take December off entirely to spend that month with him, but I think some work will need to be done at least with some retainers, and then calls to schedule projects for January. Last year we took 2 months to travel and only worked on retainers, so it'll be something similar I guess in terms of organising, but changing the pina colada for nappies.

With so much work to do, I've been hustling the last couple weeks at 10-12 hours a day. It's been a while since I've been in this situation for a good stretch. I had a nice balance going, but with so many projects coming in recently, plus the baby arriving towards the end of the year, I wanted to get as much done as possible before then. Trying to be mindful of not burning out, but all the projects I'm working on right now are really cool across a range of different industries, so I'm always looking forward to my next work session.

Skipping research and jumping straight into Illustrator is a trap. There's a good chance something similar already exists and you won't even know. You're working with the same basic shapes and ideas as everyone else. Research into your client's industry and competition is a goldmine. Gives you a clear read on where to explore and where to avoid. Combine that with sketching first and the mark already has a bit of you baked in before Illustrator is even open. The imperfections, the quirks, the decisions only you would make. That's how we end up with a mark thats unique and fits the brand.
