I’m personally one of the people who wouldn’t/hasn’t had a problem with age gaps in personal relationships.
But I’m unusual!
Outlier preferences should not be normalized, it’s bad for us all. If outliers feel that the equation works for them, then they should face society’s judgement and do it anyway. The judgement shouldn’t be based on how it makes a few people feel, it is in fact a useful deterrent for dopes.

No, critics of large age-gap relationships aren’t invoking jncest when they say “he’s old enough to be her father”.
They are pointing at a likely difference in life experience, maturity, and mismatch in power dynamics.
Moreover, the stigma enforces a norm useful at the societal level.
While large age-gaps can and do work for some couples, a society in which they are common is likely to be a deeply dysfunctional one.

Age gap critics say, "He's old enough to be her father." But they're not genetically related. Interestingly, you never see people say "ew this couple is 2 years apart, he could be her brother." One possibility for this is that age gap critics believe sibling incest isn't as disgusting as parent-child incest. Or, more likely, because people feel no urge to invoke the incest disgust response as a strategy to stigmatize relationships with small age gaps.

DC is the main city where this is happening, for sure. I was just there and a black co worker said “You know this used to be Chocolate aCity right?” It’s now around 35% black, down from near 80%.
SF, my hometown, has lost ~half of its black population, but it was only around 10-12%.

@ClickingSeason @Pythagasaurus3 Absolutely. I’m not a huge fan but I have ears—they’re sound is much more unusual and original than Hole, and while they didn’t do anything as good as Smashing Pumpkins first two albums, no one sounded like Sonic Youth.

Or not, it’s obvious that they are a more distinctive and original sound speaking purely technically than smashing pumpkins or, especially, hole.
They invented new tunings for example, which lead to entirely unfamiliar chord voicings

Sonic Youth are the Ur Hipster brand, the VC's of indie music. And very much like a VC's they just harvest and repackage whatever they can out of the landscape. Courtney Love and Billy Corgan for all their myriad faults as human beings actually made some significant vital art

The sudden fascination with Japanese X is that it’s cozy and familiar (while still feeling ever so slightly alien/uncanny) but mostly because all the politics, if they exist at all, are entirely in the background.
Americans are looking for a way to extract themselves from non-stop, all consuming political obsession. This is a vision of the way out.
