@ichem_TIR @CorbynRed @meadwaj @JoanDevizes The NHS was done in one term. That one radical government was more valuable than the whole New Labour era, though the minimum wage has also survived the Tories and is the main success of that period. The thing that defends a progressive policy is it being unpalatable to repeal.

@CorbynRed @meadwaj @JoanDevizes I disagree. Anything done in one term can be unpicked in short order. I believe we need an honest strategic path that we can work towards over multiple parliaments. Friday showed us what knee jerk policies engender. Volatility

For all the fuss around Labour’s spectacular poll lead, assuming the Tories are now beyond recovery, the party will enter government in the most dreadful economic situation since the 1930s: cost of living crisis, interest rates through roof, spiralling debt, zero growth… 1/2

@weeble @EffieArtoria "truly ridiculous numbers of small files or nested directories" I feel called out and I hate it. I do image analysis okay??

@EffieArtoria Is your hard drive dying, full, busy doing something else or pathologically structured, like with truly ridiculous numbers of small files or nested directories?

Is this normal? It is taking over half an hour to install a patch I've already downloaded because the disk activity is so slow

@EffieArtoria @RustyJimDigital @LukeTweedy1 Good job! I had a fun time. After playing a while, I think the die faces are: cowstrike - smash all nearby cows into biggest/highest value nearby target embiggen - enlarge the size of every nearby building, cow or piece of rubble, the shock might destroy it

When did it become a rule that if you disagree with something the government does you have to leave the country?

Unless you think women aren't busy trudging through their own daily miseries in late stage capitalism, I think this is a legitimate question to ask!

@abbey_thiel Do the bandages still smell like a durian? Are they banned on the underground?

@abbey_thiel Well, if dead ends have a short trunk with a lot of branches / quickly widening channels that trips them up. We got to a little over 60% going away from the big attractant well that way!

@TheoWerewolf Kind of- they degrade the chemical nearby, then go toward wherever the smell drifts in. The logic is 1. Eat all cake 2. smell bakery 3. go there 4. goto 1. Actually a challenge was getting them to *stop* flooding the area with the signal chemical themselves!

@EffieArtoria I was pleased with the Witcher 3 alternative "so her parents have to encourage a sense of self-worth".

Is there a trope name for like, "She's Gone Dark Phoenix"? For "woman becomes super powerful, but in a bad way, and her bf has to shank her, but he feels very sad about it" ?

@robinsall @WallaceUcsf Take the axiom of choice and have a paper in every one? Or are there not enough cell journals yet?

@WallaceUcsf Interesting. One could imagine a hotel, for example, with a Cell journal in each room. What then would one do if the Nature journals arrived?

I think Elsevier are trying to do some sort of weird number theory thing, showing that there are more "Cell" journals than there are integers... cell.com/cell-genomics/…
