Went down a rabbit hole for cross-industry innovations (when one industry borrows from another). Here are 8 gems. 1. James Dyson made a bagless vacuum after seeing how sawmills used cyclone force to eject sawdust.

You'll remember that we just said that the needle should be 2 mm from the tips of the jaws. It so happens that many of the packages are such that the needle holder naturally will pick up the needle in that (2 mm) location.

Many times the needles come packaged so that it facilitates picking them up right at one of the two classic locations we just mentioned: -the midpoint (red arrow) -or about 2/3 back (blue arrow)

Physicians noticed centuries ago that people exposed to cold temperatures often have amazing recoveries from serious medical emergencies. Now medicine is learning how to purposefully induce hypothermia in order to buy time to fix otherwise fatal trauma. omny.fm/shows/stuff-yo…

Earthrise. On Christmas Eve of 1968, the Apollo 8 crew photographed Earth rising over the lunar surface as they orbited the Moon. “We came all this way to explore the Moon, and the most important thing is that we discovered the Earth." – William Anders go.nasa.gov/3GcD3F4

I performed what is likely the world's first @Rivian powered vasectomy today. Power in clinic went out, patient didn't want to reschedule cause he already had time off. Electrocautery was normal, procedure went great! #rivianstories #rivian

In 1951, Scottish plastic surgeon Alexander Burns (seriously) Wallace (1906-1974) published his ‘rule of nines’ in The Lancet, created to estimate the percentage of skin surface area, useful for determining the extent of burns, and fluid volume needed for resuscitation.
