Gonna exit my 30s a few pounds lighter than I entered them, and that feels like a huge victory. It’s the culmination of thousands of positive choices over the past decade.

I’m laying in bed, and counted down the last few seconds of 2025. And as soon as I said those three words, I started crying. 2026 is not starting how I expected, and the next few weeks will be scary and hard and overwhelming. But I can do hard things. #HappyNewYear2026

In the midst of this holiday/end-of-the-year season, I wanted to share some gratitude and good news from our family. We discovered a lump on my dog Peach’s neck in early September. After several visits with our vet and ultimately going to see a specialist, she was diagnosed with cancer this fall. It sucked. Appointments, tests, scans and decisions were the theme of those few months.  If you don’t know Peach’s story, we adopted her in early March 2020, when we lived in LA. I always say that we didn’t intend to get a COVID puppy, but we ended with one as we first met her at the end of February and ultimately picked her up and brought her home the same day the NBA shut down its season. Peach had about as horrible a start to her life as you could imagine. She had been physically abused and neglected in the first eight or so months of her life. The rescue that picked her up from a shelter in Riverside had to get her surgery for a broken leg. It wasn’t her only injury, either. She was adopted by another family and was returned. I get it, she wasn’t just a dog for anyone. She was a dog for us.  It took her a long time to even remotely come out of her shell–and her history gave her some scars she’ll never get past–but once she did, she slowly grew into the sweetest and happiest version of herself we could have hoped for. She’s become a perfect companion to Charlie, who has been my dog now for well over a decade, and has been such a fantastic dog for both my wife and me. She grew to trust my wife pretty quickly. No shock. Everyone loves her and she brought Peach the comfort she needed to feel safe early in our home. It took her a long time to come around to me, the big, scary man. Her friendship was worth the wait. I don’t think I’ll ever have a dog as rewarding as Peach.  With her background in mind, and her being so young still, I decided it was my duty to do whatever we could, no matter what, to ensure she received the best possible care. After more work with the specialist, we eventually elected for a surgical removal of the tumor, which took place the week of Thanksgiving. Honestly, given the testing results, we were braced for a bad-to-middling outlook, at best.  Thankfully, the news coming out of it was better than we possibly could have imagined. Peach’s tumor was successfully removed and was revealed to be a low-grade tumor with a median survival rate of five more years. Relief doesn’t even begin to do it justice. I recognize how fortunate we are that luck was on our side. We have many friends in the last few years who have faced cancer with their dogs. It doesn’t always end with relief.  Peach is a wonderful dog who has grown so much from where her life began to where he is now. The thought of her life being cut short was too much to bear. I’m now so glad and hopeful that for these next few years, we don’t have to face that. If it’s the five years they told us, great. If it’s a little less, it’s better than I thought we’d get. If she gives us a little more, we are the lucky ones to have her.  I leave the end of this saga and the conclusion of this year, just so grateful. We could all be better about expressing our gratitude, me first and foremost. There’s nothing I’m more thankful for right now than Peach’s diagnosis. Appreciate you all for reading this, and I hope for good health, not just for Peach, but all of the dogs you love.  Here’s a few pictures of her the last few months. One recovering with Charlie post surgery, in the waiting room in her sweater but terrified and then again couple after getting a new toy on her car rides home from the vet, which became our little tradition through this.

I didn't get redzone this season. I haven't watched a single NFL game on any of the streaming services this year. How I watch (and how much I watch) has really changed over the past 2 years. Limiting things has actually made the games I do watch more enjoyable. Crazy....lol.

Look at this horse poop trade. I’m so annoyed with these morons…. First, we change scoring mid season. Now, this, and two players dropped their whole team.

Sometimes you think your team is trash and there’s no chance to get into the playoffs. Then somehow your team goes on a 14 game win streak to get into the playoffs. And now, onto round 2! 🥳 sometimes you just never know. #SFB15
