The American Popcorn Lung Association is sad to announce its dissolution. We have completed our interviews with all 42 million ecig users worldwide. It seems none of them have ever developed popcorn lung. @LungAssociation lied to us. It's a shame they won't get that $8,100.

We’re thrilled that the Detroit Metro Airport has dropped plans to open a cigar lounge. This decision is a tremendous victory for the health of airport travelers and workers. We congratulate the Keep DTW Smokefree Coalition and the many community advocates who fought tirelessly – and for many months – to protect everyone’s right to breathe clean air. We were proud to support their efforts. This victory demonstrates what is possible when communities come together to put people’s health ahead of tobacco industry profits. fox2detroit.com/news/detroit-m…

@TobaccoFreeKids SUGGESTION: Tell the truth. US teen use of ANY nicotine product has dropped to a 50-year low according to both the NIH MTF survey and CDC/FDA National Youth Tobacco Survey. This good news is an existential threat to your Bloomberg grants and job security. So you hide it.

We applaud @SenAlexPadilla and @RepRaulRuizMD for introducing the Health Equity and Accountability Act, comprehensive legislation to address health disparities across the United States, including those caused by tobacco use. The bill includes proven measures to reduce tobacco use, including increasing tobacco taxes and expanding access to cessation services through Medicaid, CHIP and private health plans. These policies will save lives, reduce health disparities and prevent the next generation from becoming addicted to tobacco. We thank the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, along with the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, for their leadership in advancing policies to improve health and save lives. padilla.senate.gov/newsroom/press…

Matt Myers & @DrTomFrieden think they're involved in a "David and Goliath battle against Big Tobacco." Neither listens to the voices of the millions of real stakeholders. Their thinking is still stuck in the 1990s (the glory days of Tobacco Control). x.com/DrTomFrieden/s…

A new FDA policy allows e-cigarettes and nicotine pouches to be sold without the scientific review and marketing authorization required by law, threatening our hard-won progress reducing youth tobacco use. Today, we're joining a coalition of public health organizations, pediatricians and parents to fight this unlawful policy in court. tobaccofreekids.org/press-releases…

The product may be new, but the playbook isn't. Tobacco companies are using many of the same tactics that helped build the cigarette and e-cigarette epidemics to grow the nicotine pouch market today. Dr. Sophie Braznell University of Bath’s Tobacco Control Research Group and co-author of the STOP brief shares three key points that policymakers and consumers need to know. @exposetobacco US teen use of nicotine pouches "remains low and is not increasing" according to @CDCgov. The average age of Americans who buy those is 55, and the fastest growing market segment is age 55-65. When you claim "growing popularity among young people" you are flat-out lying.

Euronews reports on STOP's new brief, Understanding Nicotine Pouches: Current Evidence and Industry Activity. The brief examines how flavoured nicotine pouches are being marketed and promoted, including on social media, and warns that their growing popularity among young people could lead to a new wave of nicotine addiction. "The booming market is not an accident," says Jorge Alday, Director of STOP and co-author of the brief. Read the story here: bit.ly/4xFJHwh

@TobaccoFreeKids Objective reality based on CDC/FDA surveys show product substitution is happening. At least 10 million Americans have quit smoking by vaping. 5.9 million in the UK; 3 million in France... Nearly 10 millions lives saved in just those 3 countries. Why do you oppose that?

Philip Morris International is conducting a massive PR campaign claiming they’re helping create a smoke-free future. But their actions show they’re just blowing smoke. A new study found PMI badly missed its own weak goals for reducing cigarette sales. Instead, PMI sold a whopping 607 billion cigarettes in 2025, continues to aggressively market cigarettes around the world, and fights policies that actually reduce smoking. That’s not how you get to a smoke-free future. Read the study: tobaccocontrol.bmj.com/content/early/…

@SEATCAdotOrg Nicotine dependence is NOT increasing. It's shifting from DEADLY to SAFER. This shift will save lives. I'm sorry you are so blind you can't see that. Tens of millions of us normal people (not industry) know this. You should listen to us. We're the people you claim to help.

@SEATCAdotOrg Real progress means a future free from smoking-related DEATH. Nicotine itself does not cause death. 100s of millions of adults enjoy using it just as you may enjoy using caffeine. It's sort of insane to think ending nicotine is more important than ending DEATH.

@TobaccoFreeKids Data published by @CDCgov shows that what YOU call 'flavors' are 6.8% of all the reasons teens who vape give for why they vape. You are pushing a demonstrably false narrative that leads to bans which harm MILLIONS of adults. And by "harm" I mean "keep smokers smoking."

New data published by the CDC Foundation underscore that flavors are a major driver of e-cigarette use among youth and young adults. These data demonstrate why it would be a serious mistake for the FDA to authorize more flavored e-cigarettes. Key findings include: •Nearly all (92.5%) youth and young adults who have ever used e-cigarettes started with a flavored product. •The most common e-cigarette flavors currently used by youth and young adults are fruit, candy/dessert/sweets, mint and menthol.   These data provide fresh evidence to support the FDA’s longstanding position that flavored e-cigarettes pose a substantial risk to young people, including promoting initiation and continued use of e-cigarettes.   Read our full statement: tobaccofreekids.org/press-releases…

@TobaccoFreeKids If c-stores "lured kids into nicotine addiction," they weren't very good at it. FYI: This narrative you spin is, literally, a crazy conspiracy theory. AG Torrez has, no doubt, been misinformed by you (and others).

We applaud New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez for his leadership in suing major convenience store chains and distributors for selling illegal, flavored disposable e-cigarettes that lure kids into nicotine addiction. Attorney General Torrez is right: These products “are engineered to taste like candy, designed to be hidden in a backpack, and loaded with enough nicotine to create a lifelong addiction. The retailers and distributors who profit from these products will be held accountable.”   santafenewmexican.com/news/local_new…

Yes. US adult use of deadly cigarettes has dropped below 10% for the first time in 100 years. According to Goldman Sachs and the Federal Trade Commission, US cigarette sales are now dropping >5% per year, FAR faster than historical trends from 1965-2020.
Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids@TobaccoFreeKids

The cigarette smoking rate among U.S. adults fell to a historic low of 9.9% in 2024, down sharply from a high of 42.4% in 1965. @voxdotcom calls it “the most successful health campaign in modern history.” But this battle is far from over. Tobacco use still kills over 7 million people worldwide and nearly half a million Americans every year. There are persistent disparities in who uses and is harmed by tobacco products, and the tobacco industry is constantly introducing new products to addict a new generation of customers. We know how to win this fight with proven policies and public education campaigns. They should be fully implemented everywhere. vox.com/future-perfect…

@TobaccoFreeKids Yes. US teen smoking has dropped to near nil, a 50-year low. Adult smoking has dropped to a 100-year low, and continues to drop MUCH faster than historical trends. If this trend continues, almost no one will be smoking in about 10 years.

In terrific news for the nation’s health, CDC survey data show that the adult cigarette smoking rate in the United States fell to 9.9% in 2024, the first time it has been under 10% since the survey began. The cigarette smoking rate among adults aged 18 or older has declined by 77% over the past six decades, from a high of 42.4% in 1965. This represents a monumental public health achievement and has resulted in longer, healthier lives for millions of Americans. Despite these gains, tobacco use remains an enormous public health problem in the U.S. More than 25 million U.S. adults still smoke cigarettes, and continued progress is at risk because of the decimation of the federal tobacco control infrastructure last year – which occurred after this survey was fielded. This includes the elimination of the CDC’s Office on Smoking and Health, which for decades has provided critical support to state tobacco prevention and cessation programs and has conducted highly effective public education campaigns warning the public about the risks of smoking. This critical work must continue to reduce smoking-related disease, death and healthcare costs nationally. Read our full statement: tobaccofreekids.org/press-releases…

Today we are joining more than 160 organizations in calling on @F1 to end its relationships with tobacco companies and ban sponsorships for all tobacco products, including nicotine pouches.
F1 is actively expanding its youth audience by partnering with beloved kids’ brands including Disney, LEGO and Hot Wheels.
By sponsoring F1 teams, tobacco companies are reaching the same young people F1 has worked hard to attract. F1 must not be complicit in these efforts and act now to prohibit all tobacco sponsorships.   Read the letters to Formula 1 and to Disney, Lego and Mattel: tobaccofreekids.org/Formula-One-pa…

@truthinitiative @TobaccoFreeKids 25 million US adults smoke. Cigarettes kill 490,000 every year. 99% of deaths are among adults over the age of 50. Teen smoking has plummeted to near nil, a 50-year low. Teen nicotine vaping dropped 70% over the past 5 years to a 10-year low. Your priorities make no sense.
