Once again this is being reduced to "Destiny should live because he likes it and doesn't like Marathon" not "Should a series with a fanbase spanning a decade be given priority over a game that has fewer players than it after two months with no observable plan to change that"

@Mr_Ultimate_ @PaulTassi Only chance Marathon has with Bungie running things is if D2 is put out to pasture. Maybe build a new dev dept to make D3 or do what alot of these big companies do. Shelve it and do some funky tax write off crap.

@Mr_Ultimate_ @PaulTassi Sony are renown for doing what they WANT rather than what makes sense. D2 is at its lowest point and still out performing Marathon. So Tassi is right. And given the choice he would choose D2. Doesnt mean Sony agree though. Which is the worry for D2 players.

@PaulTassi Maybe its wording i dont know you have more insight into the industry and ill agree they should always put more resources into destiny than marathon, but bungie WOULD never ice it especially now. And i think itd be a bad idea. More bad PR? Destiny hasent even been gone a year.

@PaulTassi @GenePark The game went from outstanding content to zipping around as a lightning ball. No wonder 2/3rds decided to end this journey there. Ofc there is more to it but its one of the many weird changes no one wanted.

@GenePark It peaked with its ten year expansion in 2024, then it moved to a new calendar. Next expansion lost 2/3rds of players and now it has yawning gaps without content. The next expansion was good but it still lost more players. Things aren’t great

So, in summary: - Sony’s $765 million in impairment losses for Bungie means they are downwardly adjusting the value of an asset that I think everyone but Sony realized was probably not worth $3.6 billion. This is not “lost money” in the sense some are thinking of - This wouldn’t be happening if Bungie games were doing great and printing loads of cash. Clearly they are not - Sony is at least publicly backing Marathon per its comments on the call, so the result of all this is not some imminent game/studio shutdown - Sony says it does not expect more big Bungie impairment losses in FY26 - All this is to say there are no guarantees this doesn’t produce something like layoffs and reduced overall investment in games like Marathon, Destiny and future projects. None of this is good news outside of claims of future Marathon plans to try to turn things around. Emphasis on try - I remain very concerned about Destiny

Also, they are focusing more on lore as another way to stand out from the crowd. Also, discerning the lore in a game experience has never been simple. Period.
