All the men requiring access to the female changing rooms - What words of wisdom would you offer to the lady who breaks down in tears while trying on clothes, 3 months postpartum? She is struggling to embrace her changed body. What about the woman who is opening up to the assistant about how she got the bruises on her neck? She knows the assistant saw them, and can tell that she is kind hearted. Or the customer who is chatting about the challenge of finding tops that conceal her prosthetic breast insert? The lady who needs staff assistance because she has a broken collarbone and can’t lift her arm? It’s her daughter’s graduation ceremony tomorrow and she can’t get into the dress she’d picked out... Believe it or not, retail staff do play an active role in the shopping experience for women. So you can talk about the locked cubicle doors all day long. The female fitting rooms are where women should be able to engage with female assistants, without you there.

@HomoSocialist M&S need to ensure there are women only changing rooms. They have men’s single sex changing rooms but women don’t get a single sex spaces. As long as they persist in this inequality women will persist in calling it out.

M&S need to put out a statement in support of their staff member who had to deal with that deranged woman.

As a man living in Devon I could go into the fitting rooms on the left or the right. @marksandspencer are OK with that. However, Mrs Higgy is only allowed in the fitting rooms on the right. But she has to share with ANY man who wants to join her. This is simply not right. It's dangerous and unacceptable.

Some places have them on the shop floor with ceiling to floor walls for all. There’s nothing safer that your own personal lockable room.

Quite often fitting rooms are unmanned due to staffing issues so having locks provides a safer space. Women can get ambushed anywhere less so in a room they can lock
