TLDR: “L1s don’t capture revenue because they’re decentralized - L2s do because they’re centralized.” Lowering security costs & capturing revenue are two factors out of a plethora of reasons for the shift to L2s. However, don’t discount the fact that most ecosystems rabidly failed to build their own network economies as they struggle to; attract liquidity, enrich & retain users, onboard dApps that aren’t just forks, and most importantly - most projects have little to no business acumen. One of the main reasons for the increase in L2s is predatory VCs seeking infra plays as quick exit liquidity and teams were ready to lap it up instead of building real crypto based businesses. The shift to L2s won’t work unless there is a niche business case for doing so. There is absolutely no necessity for 458 EVM L2s.
