In Ukraine, families will observe Orthodox Easter this Sunday in the midst of war for the fifth consecutive year. The day holds profound importance for communities across the country—which is why our teams are once again serving paska, traditional Easter cakes with colorful decorations, so people can share a moment of joy and reflection. "Paska for Ukrainians is a symbol of goodness, care, love, and family warmth." – Yuliya, WCK Response Director #ChefsForUkraine

New: We have more calls between Sergei Lavrov and Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó. These include discussion of Hungary’s role in blocking financial aid to Ukraine and impeding its accession negotiations with the EU. “Sometimes good-willed direct blackmailing is the best option,” Lavrov told Szijjártó. vsquare.org/kremlin-hotlin…

Checking in from Odesa. WCK's Pavlo is on the ground following last night's drone attack—one of the largest the city has faced. Rescue operations are ongoing. Our team is staying right here with the people who need us. #ChefsForUkraine

WCK's seed distribution is underway once more in Ukraine!🌱 Our teams are delivering seed kits to families across the country, including frontline communities. Through this initiative, people receive carefully selected seeds to grow their own food at home, providing reliable access to fresh ingredients and restoring a sense of normalcy and self-reliance. These distributions mark the start of a new growing season, shaped by care and hope. #ChefsForUkraine

In the Kherson region of Ukraine, where cooking is becoming increasingly difficult due to Russian attacks, WCK's #ChefsForUkraine teams are working to help families cook for themselves again. We're delivering cooking kits to families—each of which includes a gas stove, fuel, and extinguisher—to places where access to electricity is unreliable. Many of these families have relied on WCK's hot meals in the past. Now, we're working to restore their ability to cook the food they love with dignity.

Bucha survivor and journalist Olya Bilan: "Eleven of us crammed into a basement ... Outside, the marauding Russian occupiers were killing my friends and neighbors ... When I would come up from the basement, I saw bodies. Cars riddled with bullet holes. Houses destroyed."

Our partners have given me their time to speak at the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council to draw attention to the plight of people in Russian captivity. The full text of the speech is below. Mr. President, I am documenting war crimes in this war, which Russia has launched against Ukraine. I would like to draw attention to the problem of illegally detained civilians. According to international law, Russia has no right to do it, but tens of thousands of men, women and children are illegally detained in occupied territories.   I spoke with hundreds of them. They told me how they were beaten, raped, their fingers were cut, their nails were torn away. One woman told me how her eye was dragged out with a spoon.   Last year, I met a five-year-old girl. We work with the case of her mother. Her mother was a civilian.   She was abducted and tortured. Frankly speaking, I don't know how she survived. She went through multiple gang rape and then she was illegally transported to Russia, where she faced a fabricated criminal case.   Probably, someone told her that I am a Nobel Peace Prize laureate and can do something. So, she reached me, hugged me, started crying and begging me, please return my mom.   It has to be some conclusion here, but instead of this, I have just two questions.   First, are we doing enough to release these people? And second, what do I have to answer to this five-year-old girl?

🌱 When WCK teams visited Ukrainian villages shortly after the Russian invasion, we heard one overwhelming request: communities asked us for seeds to plant new gardens, many of which had been destroyed by attacks. That's how our #ChefsForUkraine team came up with our Seeds of Hope program, where we distribute packets of potatoes, peppers, and other beloved Ukrainian seeds to families each spring. Learn more about the evolution of Seeds of Hope and how WCK is working to support Ukrainian communities here: thecommontable.eu/sowing-seeds-o…

Kharkiv is one of the most heavily targeted Ukrainian cities since the war with Russia began. Despite this, CBS News' @aidan_stretch shows how people from there are determined to resume daily life – taking the train, going out to eat and even building underground schools for children.

Ukraine's railway system has been a lifeline since the earliest days of the full-scale invasion—and for WCK, it has been an essential partner. Since February 2022, our teams have worked alongside Ukrainian Railways to serve millions of meals to families at every stage of the war. Hear from our #ChefsForUkraine teammates and Ukrainian Railways partners about what the rails mean to the people who depend on them.

In the community of Huliaipole, Ukraine, Russian encroachment has forced families out of their homes and into long journeys to escape shelling. That’s why WCK teams are there, standing by local residents as we supply them with food kits to help them find a moment of comfort on their way to safety. #ChefsForUkraine

WCK's #ChefsForUkraine team just opened 9 new kitchens in a dormitory in Kharkiv where many displaced families have been sheltering. Our teams know that the ability to cook isn't just a daily necessity—it's also a chance for communities to come together over a shared plate and care for each other. Hear from WCK's Inna and Yullia about our new kitchens here: #google_vignette" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">radio.nakypilo.ua/u-gurtozhytku-…

Before the war, Raisa grew her own food in her garden—tomatoes, cabbage, the staples of a life she knew well. Today, the 85-year-old lives in a community for displaced families in Khmelnytskyi, Ukraine. But through WCK's Seeds of Hope program, now in its fourth year, she is returning to that feeling, planting seeds in a local greenhouse and tending to something that will grow. When the harvest comes, the plan is to cook borsch and share it among neighbors. Across Ukraine, WCK is distributing seeds to people like Raisa to restore a sense of normalcy, one garden at a time. #ChefsForUkraine

Two of Russia's largest oil companies, Rosneft and Gazprom, helped the Russian government and President Vladimir Putin abduct roughly 2,000 Ukrainian children to send to Russian indoctrination camps since the start of the war in 2022, Yale's Humanitarian Research Lab found. CBS News' chief foreign affairs correspondent @margbrennan explains what we learned from the report.
