The defunding and closing of the Bauhaus school at Dessau was a part of the larger shift in the political landscape in O’Sullivan’s view, just as the local Mayor lost office and was imprisoned for his public service. Today the building is a UNESCO site whc.unesco.org/en/list/729/

@lukekvas @holz_bau @wiliamsdarin @yitgordon @MercuryVirginia @HBAofVirginia For towers I completely agree. For “missing middle”, smaller and more affordable building types I don’t see it, we have more affordable tools that are fit for purpose opticosdesign.com/missing-middle…

Architects, advocates & developers all agree: Virginia should allow single-staircase structures up to 6 stories, but will state officials agree? In my latest @MercuryVirginia story, hear from @LyleSollaYates, @HBAofVirginia & @holz_bau why it matters. 🏗🏢

@_fruchtose Can they change the message or does it have to stay the same? Alternately can they have a restricted menu of saucy puns inspected by city staff?

@jacopocomin That's not what drew me to it at first, I was initially impressed at how effective free fares were in Charlottesville and Baltimore purely as ridership value for money but yes there are many related benefits

one thing I think technocratic left types like myself miss is how much "free fares" as a project has to do with policing and removing a tool for cops to harass people rather than "just" direct costs.
Uday Schultz 🚰@A320Lga
Speaking more generally, fares have been an extraordinarily successful policy plank on the left, and my fellow technocratic scolds have a lot to learn from the organizers/communicators/policy shops who made it as discussed as it is today

Second, what if we established "set-back lines" where people aren't allowed to build on their own property, so the city can come and buy it later to make more space for cars when the drivers show up? What a notion. 🚘🚘🚘

@erinleeryan Looks like a full street but a paper one up to now. It only exists to offer access to these lots that are finally being built

@whatthecarp @nytimes There is a fundamental belief among many people I interact with that climate change is either controlled by a few wealthy overlords or the fault of everyone through individual consumption decisions. There is some truth to both, but both defeat collective action
